That party is in St. Paul this week. I'm sure you can still get there in time.

Not that it matters, Chips doesn't seem to know what Liberalism actually stands for. It's fundamentally opposed to socialism and communism.

From Wikipedia:

Quote:
Liberalism is a broad array of related ideas and theories of government that consider individual liberty to be the most important political goal. Modern liberalism has its roots in the Age of Enlightenment.

Liberalism emphasizes individual rights and equality of opportunity. Different forms of liberalism may propose very different policies, but they are generally united by their support for a number of principles, including extensive freedom of thought and speech, limitations on the power of governments, the rule of law, the free exchange of ideas, a market or mixed economy, and a transparent system of government. All liberals — as well as some adherents of other political ideologies — support some variant of the form of government known as liberal democracy, with open and fair elections, where all citizens have equal rights by law.
And before someone jumps on the "mixed economy" : for socialism, all (or the majority) of production has to be owned by the state. A mixed economy would allow for some limited production to be state-owned, for example in areas that tend to be monopolistic. (like the water supply) Though there are some good regulatory ideas that would constrain price gauging while allowing privatization.

This definition applies to US liberalism, also known as "social liberalism." There's also "classical liberalism", which is close to libertarianism.

Not like the average fox watcher is going to get it. For them, those damn liberals just want the government to take over. If you polled on issues, you'd find a lot of Republicans showing themselves to be liberals. You know, the ones who don't care about "family values" and religion, abortion or gay marriage - all examples of the government getting involved in people's private lives and opposed to the idea of small government.

However, when someone reduces the argument to this level on the internet then you know they are conceding defeat as they have nothing of substance to offer.

Just fyi.

Too bad in reality its pretty much dead fucking even.
This is why our country is so fucked up. I really cant understand how people can think the way they do. And it's HALF OUR FUCKING COUNTRY !

If McCain/Palin wins in November, the dems will never EVER get a democrat elected as president. Karl Rove's asinine vision will have come to fruition and the brain washing of over half of the american people will have worked. Oh well.

I agree with Michael Savage when he says:

McCain has thrown the election. It is clear now with his choice for Vice President that he has no desire to win in November. Why else would he chose an inexperienced woman, whose only apparent qualification is that she won a beauty pageant in the 1980s?

Actually, the argument was "reduced" long ago. Where have you been? Everyone with a clue knows it. It doesn't matter if I'm red, blue, etc. the point is the whole thread is biased as a mother fucker. One person posts with conservative views and 10 people jump on them like ants on a bug trying to make it across the sidewalk. You sir can kindly fuck off.

Just fyi.

So... not to neglect this rousing debate but I found this interesting:

I know, I know. Sample size. I was still surprised how negative the average reaction to her was.

I just want the government out of my fucking wallet and with as little power as possible. McCain + Democratic congress > Obama + Pelosi/Reid spendogasm.

I keep waiting for McCain to show his mettle in this thing, but I swear he has run a worse campaign than Bob Dole. This is terrible.

Uhhhhhhnnnn you just made me orgasssssmmmm at woooooooooooorrrrrk.

Another New Deal is exactly what this country needs. Not only to rebound our political and economic systems, but also to remind us that liberalism and a potent government makes for awesome times.

Then you need go back and see who the real spenders are. I'll give you a hint. 3 of the last 4 Presidents ran massive deficits while only 1 actually started paying down the national debt.
