No offense, but all my friends that graduated with engineering degrees had so many job offers they were making the companies compete for them.

The only people i know that are struggling to get jobs are the idiots who think that a psyc/buisiness/etc degree is going to get them a job like it did 20 years ago. News flash, if you arn't going to college to learn a "skill-set" you are wasting your money. The only reason to get a bachelor's degree in something that doesn't giving you special training is if you are pursuing some sort of additional education(mba/law/etc).

I have very little pity for those fuckers who got a psyc/phil/music/etc degree and now can't find jobs. The problem isn't in young people finding a job for their degree; instead its on too many people going to college and getting a degree that doesn't train you to do a specific job. Honestly, what do you do with a philosophy degree that someone who just graduated high school couldn't do?

Yeah, a good chunk of them have "Communications" degrees. Or "Art History" or some other such bullshit that I can't believe they even let you get a diploma for.

You may be right but experts agree that Obama starts with a -6%, therefore if the polls are as they are now with Obama about +1 to +5, it will be a McCain electoral landslide. If Obama is not up 7-10 points after the debates, McCain will be President. That means if McCain can not survive for 4 years which will make him 76, Sarah Palin will be the 45th President of the US. How is that for a kick in the ass. Let me say it again; Sarah Palin will be President. You betcha.

This is also the reason we will start to see Rev. Wright ads again. McCain's Karl Rove-style campaign team must use Wright. Rev. Wright is a tailor made Rovian distraction. It is pure win on many levels. Watch Sean Hannity closely. You will start to see a slow drip of Wright and then by late October his entire show on both radio and tv will be dedicated to Wright.

Six percentage points is the price Barack Obama could pay on election day for being black.

That disturbing calculation was found in a groundbreaking new Associated Press-Yahoo News poll conducted with Stanford University which probes the effect of the Democratic presidential candidate's race on his historic campaign for the White House.

"There's a penalty for prejudice, and it's not trivial," Stanford University political scientist Paul Sniderman told the AP.

6% seems like a lot given how old the race issue with Obama is. Perhaps I'm disconnected with the bulk of voters, but it seems like by the time the election season rolls around, and even now, Obama's skin color is blanketed and drowned out by so many other issues in my thought of him.

In Alaska related news Jury Selection Begins for Ted Stevens Trial.
Quote:
VECO employees normally build oil pipeline and processing equipment. But company workers also led the renovation of the senator's home, a project that was overseen by Bill Allen, a longtime Stevens friend and now the government's star witness.
Seems the scandals don't fall far from the tree up north, but despite the charges and pending trial Stevens still won the Republican primary.

I don't agree with the -6% effect, because from the very beginning there have been bullshit racist rumours going around. The people that are afraid to admit they are racist because of social pressure will have latched onto these issues already as a legitimate means to express their inner bigot in a "legitimate" way.

My hypothesis is that the reverend wright and secret Muslim bullshit were enough to give people who are afraid to express their bigotry via social pressure an outlet to do so semi-legitimately.

That being said I'm not rejecting the study out of hand, I'd have to read the methodology.

I was thinking the same thing. I don't think it's fair to blame anyone for not being able to get a job with a useless degree. Gotta be realistic and realize college isn't just about partying!

Of my small circle of close friends (they do not disappoint me):

2 Education degrees (1 is a permanent substitute teacher, the other Barnes&Noble)
1 Social Work degree (Coffee Shop)
1 EE Masters (He's pursuing a Ph.D because he couldn't find work)
1 Journalism degree (works at a Print Management shop)
2 English degrees (Books&Co, a bakery)
2 Comp Sci degrees (Pizza Delivery, and Krogers)

Just no jobs to be had around here, I suppose. Well, using their degrees, that is.

Of course, this is all anecdotal, but the issue wasn't "useless degrees" it was general unemployment. If it takes a "real degree" to be employed, think about what the other 80% of America has to do!

Think outside yourself.

I don't know why they didn't talk to their counselors and ask them the staple question "How much money will I make when I graduate?" or "How competitive is the market?". I quickly got out of the computer science program when I found out that there were a ton of comp sci majors out there already and the market was extremely competitive and competition was hard depending on where you lived.

I quickly found out that healthcare + anything had major shortages in it. Healtcare certified IT professionals = $$$$$$$

I think the 6% number is a little high, but I think there is a substantial number that won't vote for Obama due to his skin color. On the other hand though, some of that is offset due to people voting for him because of his skin color. I think if he has a 6-7 point lead after the debates, he's got the election. Anything less than that, it's going to be a dogfight.

If it's real close (1-2 pts) or in some way McCain is leading after the debates, then Obama loses the election. It's ironic how Obama may have more going for him, but has less room for error than his opponent.

Reminds me of that line in the move 'Heat'

This guy can hit and miss, you can't miss once.
