Sure a typical factory is going to have millrights, electricians, plumbers and so on that work on the machinery and those guys will do fine no matter what. But a typical factory worker is NOT skilled in any realistic way. I feel bad for the flood of guys coming West from Windsor and around that area looking for work. They've been making 25, 30 bucks an hour with fantastic benefits and all of the sudden they're making 15 bucks an hour doing heavy labor, starting at the bottom rung of a trade. The good news is that it'll only take them 4-5 years, if they have their shit together, to get back to where they were. But it's unfortunate that in a lot of cases they pissed away 10 or 20 years working in a plant, learning no useful skills. The fact of the matter is, manufacturing is not a lynch pin of a modern economy anymore. The problem is, when people hear "service based economy" they instantly think that "service" means being a waiter or retail store worker, when in fact "services" include everything from health care, to information technology, to lawyers and finance, and so on. McCain was right, those jobs are gone and they're not coming back. People need to realize that working in a factory 8 hours a day for 20 years is no longer a viable career path in today's modern economies. And if they don't, they're going to be left behind. Quote:

| McCain is gaining in the national but not the important swing states. If he's going to run a dirty campaign he should at the very least run one that appeals to the states he needs to win. Right now he's ahead in the national but losing pretty handily to Obama electorally.

| Carly Fiorina has come out and called Tina Fey's portrayal of Palin, you guessed it, sexist. No embed link on the video. Quote:

| McClatchy Washington Bureau | 09/11/2008 | Critics: Under Palin, Wasilla charged rape victims for exam Jacob Alperin-Sheriff: New Evidence: Palin Had Direct Role In Charging Rape Victims For Exams This is just gross. Not surprised though that a woman who would make a rape victim carry a baby (shes against ALL forms of abortion - even when the mothers life is at stake...but gets on how many plane rides while in PREMATURE labor????) would also make a woman pay to prove she was raped. And because shes a republican she then gets to get away with calling herself a feminist. Seriously I was lukewarm about McCain - I friggin hate Sarah "Jesus told us to go to war" Palin. You know I almost want "small town we're so much better than you elitists on the coasts america" and the bitter women in this country to elect McCain-Palin. That way when peoples daughters in alabama, kentucky, west virginia etc get knocked up and their families cant afford to fly them to Canada or elsewhere to have an abortion, they'll have to walk around town with the shame of having a pregnant unmarried daughter in their little bible belt fanatical communities. And then theyll have to explain why the girls first cousin/brother/uncle is the one paying child support too. Or theyll have one done illegally and either get arrested or die on the table. Either way its Darwinism. Me? If my daughter ever needed my help or if my sons girlfriend came to me in need (I'd in NO way ever pressure EITHER my daughter or my sons girlfriend), I'll be able to afford to fly them out of the country. Cant wait til small town america fucks itself over. Right down to the factory towns voting for a party that sends its jobs overseas.

| Serious question Etoille. She has said her personal beliefs are that abortion in all cases are wrong. Do you find it so terrible that that is a nonstarter for you, or would you still consider the candidate if he or she did not make that a campaign issue and had never given an indication that he or she would ever translate that personal belief into governmental action? Personally there are a lot of politicians who hold beliefs I abhor, but as long as it's not part of their platform I don't really care. This is not about Sarah Palin in particular, I'm just wondering where people draw the line between the person and the politician. I personally think Roe v Wade was a disaster of a decision, and that states should make their own decisions, but if I ever ran for office that wouldn't be an issue I would push or even bring up if I didn't have to, because to me that is not an issue of paramount importance.
