I understand that the domestic auto industry is supposed to employ a lot of people and thus has a large economic impact, but damn. When are we gonna cut out this protectionist bullshit and let our auto makers grow a pair ?

I can't really support a candidate who would sign that into law when we've got the largest deficit year ever projected and haven't even finished spending what we are going to spend on the banking industry (and don't forget about job losses and inflation which are still on the rise).
This is just pandering by the libs. If we were really serious about
getting alternative powered vehicles, the President could just suggest this:

The first two automakers who successfully produce a vehicle that does not use petroleum will be able to deduct 100% of the research and development costs on their taxes spread out over 10 years. Additionally, the profits of these two companies will not be taxable for 3 years.

Bam.

We would have what we need pronto. The jobs created would be enormous. The ancillary jobs created through the creation of new infrastructure throughout the United States (and the world for that matter) would be incalculable.

I forget the statistic, but like 3,000 dollars from every vehicle purchased goes to paying retired workers and benefits. This is not a bad thing, those people lived up to their end of the bargin and they deserve what they were promised. That being said, companies have learned that people need to do it themselves. Give people the money they would spend on retirement benefits and let them invest so that they can control their own destiny. It is the only way our republic will survive the 21st century.

Loans with a reduced interest rate aren't really protectionist. It's rather bad timing for the auto makers with lending tightening and major changes necessary. Assuming they don't go bankrupt, it doesn't cost the government anything. As long as it's really used to switch to efficient cars, it's probably worth doing. You're not gaining anything by letting them fall further behind the international competition.

That being said, there are some structural changes needed (especially with their unions) and a loan should probably be contingent on that happening. Otherwise they'll just bleed more money.

Wait until Boeing comes a knockin'.

If those clowns don't get the Dreamliner in the air and filling orders within 12 months they may very well be proper fucked.

I don't know if this is actually going to run in the National Enquirer, but at this point who knows: Straighttalkexpresswatch’s Weblog

Not even saying there's anything to it...

Quote:
The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively that Sarah’s oldest son, Track, was addicted to the power drug OxyContin for nearly the past two years, snorting it, eating it, smoking it and even injecting it. ... “I’ve partied with him (Track) for years,” a source disclosed. “I’ve seen him snort cocaine, snort and smoke OxyContin, drink booze and smoke weed.” ...

“Bristol was a huge stoner and drinker. I’ve seen her smoke pot and get drunk and make out with so many guys. All the guys would brag that the just made out with Bristol.”

When Sarah found out the teen was pregnant by high schooler Levi Johnston, she was actually banished from the house. As part of the cover-up, Palin quickly transferred Bristol to another high school and made her move in with Sarah’s sister Heather 25 miles away! ...

The friend also confided that both Bristol and Levi “broke up a few times and they definitely messed around with other people.”

Meanwhile, as members of the Palin family’s war viciously over “Trooper-Gate” and claims of Sarah’s extramarital affair have turned the political race into a chaotic arena of threats, denials and vicious attacks by political black ops, The ENQUIRER has discovered shocking new details about the red-hot affair scandal!
So, when does this magazine hit the news stand? Their website seems to be permanently down.

Doubt the stories are going to affect the race at all, but the way the McCain campaign handles them might. They did threaten a lawsuit in the past and that would probably give the stories more credibility than they deserve. (and propel them into the spotlight)

It'd be fucking hilarious if a supermarket tabloid kills the Republican campaign.

Dude, people in this country were stupid enough to fall for the whole "soccer mom" bit, and actually support her for President. Because odds are greatly in favor of her being President at some point in the next 4 years if McCain is elected. The same vapid whores who accept that she is ok to be President are not going to be swayed by that. Shit, she is STILL using the whole "Bridge to Nowhere" bit and we all know that she supported it.

Without proof it will just be an attack on an "Innocent teenage girl victim" which will energize the republican base more.

Now if someone can pull out a cellphone clip or her snorting or smoking pot then we are gonna be golden.

The sad part is I don't particularly care what Palin's daughter did if she was a hooker sleeping with 5 guys a night and 20 abortions it wouldn't actually matter. But to those religious ignorant fuck nuts it sure would...

Why do I have to read shit like this on blogs, why can't mainstream media do research?

Now that Alaska is front and center in the news again, it is a good time to catch up on a favorite story, The Bridge to Nowhere, using the Washington Post US Congress Votes Database.

Though Gov. Palin originally supported the earmark spending on the Ketchikan bridge (“to nowhere), she eventually killed the project, chosing to spend Federal money on other infrasturcture programs.

However, Sen. Biden and Sen. Obama voted for funding the Bridge, even when given a second chance by Sen. Tom Coburn, who proposed shifting earmark funds to Katrina relief.

Sen. McCain did not vote on the Coburn Amendment, though he is on record as opposing the Ketchikan bridge earmark.

Personally I would love to know why they voted that way..

Anyways I will tell you why the mainstream media aint covering it. Right now they are too busy talking about Lipstick and Obama being Sexist. Blame the McCain campaign for making that ridiculous fucking ad, along with the sex edu ads.

So instead of discussing REAL FUCKING ISSUES, about how we are going to fix this country we are stuck talking about 2 stupid fucking ads that are complete lies, because the Media is just eating it up. They spent the entire morning on MSNBC on this stupid fucking issue, and when even Chris Mathews tried to steer it away both Joe and Pat drove it right back in.

I thought McCain said he was going to run a clean campaign, this shit is fucking disgusting and does nothing to further the discussion of real issues affecting this country.

Obama said the same thing but it isn't the case. Please, don't sit there and pretend you or any other left winger is the victim here, because you aren't. Both side are taking shots.

McCain campaign manager Rick Davis said the election would be decided largely on voters' perceptions of the candidates' personalities.

"This election is not about issues," Davis told The Washington Post this week. "This election is about a composite view of what people take away from these candidates."

Yup the Repubes made their bed now they can lie down in its filth!
