McCain supported all of this. He's complicit in this disaster. That's why your boy won't talk about it.
I actually agree with you that Bernanke has been overly enthusiastic in his rate cuts and that the deregulation of the mortgage sector contributed mightily to the current situation(I've been reading Michael Lewis' new book and each of the authors he references basically predicts much of what has happened). Also I don't think there's a person alive that would argue with you that Bush is a fiscal conservative, he definitely isn't. With that said Obama's current economic policy looks like a surefire way to trigger a depression(not recession, depression). I detest Nanny state politics and Obama might as well dress up like Mrs. Doubtfire.

Edit: If Washington scores here and covers I'm going to go outside and find a small furry animal to punt.

From the wikipedia page of Goldwater:

Spot on. The controversy section is interesting though:

Quote:
Goldwater was known in Las Vegas as a “swinger”. [38] He had personal and financial relationships with two racketeers – Willie Bioff, and Gus Greenbaum – both of whom were later murdered in gangland executions. Bioff gained control of Hollywood labor unions in the 1930s. In 1941, Bioff was indicted for violating the federal anti-racketeering statutes, and was later convicted of extortion in connection with his management of those unions. Bioff turned state’s witness and assisted in the prosecution of nine Chicago Mafia partners. Greenbaum was a Las Vegas casino operator for various Mafia interests.[39]

When Goldwater began his relationship with Bioff, Bioff was already a convicted labor extortionist. Goldwater said of Bioff at various times that he either did not know of Bioff’s criminal history, or that he was associating with Bioff in order to learn more about labor racketeering. In 1952, Goldwater accepted a $5,000 contribution from Bioff, in exchange for persuading a local newspaper editor to quash a story exposing Bioff’s criminal history.[40] Goldwater flew Bioff to parties all over the Southwest in his private plane.[41]

Goldwater was more willing to publicly acknowledge his friendship with Greenbaum: “Yes, I knew him all my life.” Greenbaum ran the Flamingo and Riviera Hotels in Las Vegas -- where Goldwater routinely stayed – on behalf of Mafia interests. Several individuals who misbehaved in a Greenbaum-managed hotel were murdered by Jimmy Fratianno on Greenbaum's orders. Greenbaum was eventually murdered when he himself ran afoul of his Mafia partners.[42]

On Nov. 17, 1963, Goldwater held a press conference in Pittsburgh in which he denounced news reports of his gangland associations.
How does that compare to the innuendo you're throwing at Obama?

I hear it's the largest issue of this election, you McCain supporters want to explain why your party won't mention it?
Because the president has very little (should be no) effect on the economy. It's just a hot issue because the economy is bad, but neither Obama or McCain can fix that.

No. Philosophically he would be very close, but Goldwater was a strong defense advocate. The modern Republican ethos of a strong ENGAGEMENT posture (as opposed to the Truman doctrine's containment) is just about what distinguishes contemporary Republicans and Libertarians. And Goldwater was the grandfather of engagement. His campaign slogan was "peace thru strength".

If Ron Paul hadn't been so anti-war he would be the nominee today.

I already addressed that. You pretend like the CHRISTIAN ACTIVISTS are in control of the GOP when in fact they got their asses shut down during the primary by McCain's 78% win. No, as much as Goldwater hated the religious right (and he did, often saying "every good christian should kick Jerry Falwell right in the ass") McCain's unpleasant history with them is consistent with his allegiance to the man's movement.

And his mob connections (similar allegations used to exist for McCain and JFK btw) never really got anywhere.

You seriously did not just say that... Hmm no effect ehh? You think being in Iraq is not hurting the economy? How about all the foreign policy problems? How about the craptastic response to Katrina?!?!

GET A FUCKING CLUE.

I guess acording to your narrow minded view the President is there just to wage war.

Considering how they shit on Ron Paul and kept him from even speaking at their convention, no I don't think he would.

I like Ron Paul, but what would happen after he would be president is anyone's guess. He wants to take on the governments and banks, basically suicide from the start.

You keep bringing up Katrina. Do you actually have any numbers that support your argument that a huge weight on our economy is a direct result of Bush's handling of Katrina compared to however the ideal way to handle it would have been?

Iraq is having an effect on the economy, sure. But war is one of the few things that the federal government should be involved with so that is alright with me.

Oh no, Paul's fiscal policies were REALLY solid man. Ron Paul had his economics down pat. He laid out a plan to switch to a gold standard that was based on FA Hayek's "competing currencies" model, where we would have two currencies that are initially equal and interchangeable but one is based on a gold standard and the other is based on fiat.

According to Hayek (a nobel-laureate Austria-school economist), the fiat currency would fluctuate with volatility and the gold-standard based currency would balance against inflation. Under the model, neither currency would ever really phase out. It's an elegant model.

Ron Paul never advocated a "suicide" run for the central bank or any of the entitlement programs but the same smart transition to PRIVATIZATION that Republicans advocate for everything from healthcare to school vouchers.
