Correction. He was a failed Navy pilot who could not even fly and got shot down. I honor his service but how in the hell is being a POW and a soccer mom qualifications for President?

You're missing the argument. People are saying she was picked largely because she was a woman. Hearing how she is being talked up it is obvious.

Biden wasnt picked largely because he was white. He was picked for foreign policy.

Clearly Obama wouldnt put two black people on the ticket due to race issues in this country, like McCain wouldnt pick a gay person as his VP.

But that says nothing about picking a woman because she has a vagina.

You'd have to really be a hardcore political junkie to give half a shit who the 2 year Governor of Alaska was before today unless you lived there. If people are excited about a pick they don't know anything about, I'm not impressed yet.

It may well be a good pick, I am not convinced either way yet, and won't be until we get to see how a broader slice of the population reacts to this.....I still think that most people are just trying to get a handle on who the hell Sarah Palin is.


I will say this however: Conservatives seem to really dig the pick...this could be the shot in the arm they have been looking for. However, the flip side of that, that conservatives should take note of, is that Democrats are not afraid of Sarah Palin. At all.

If the goal was to shore up Conservative support and give the McCain campaign a shot in the arm, then I think they have done ok - if the goal (which even in the speech she gave this morning she alluded to) is attracting Hillary supporters, I think it is going to fail horribly. I think it will just piss them off every time she tries to evoke Hillarys' "18 Million cracks in the ultimate glass ceiling" line like she did this morning.

Not many of them knew who she was.. beyond the fact that she was being discussed as a real remote long shot for like a week... but honestly unless you follow politics pretty closely you prolly didnt know who barrack obama was before he started running either. Most people dont follow this stuff closely at all so its no surprise that most people dont know the candidates before they become the candidates. Most people prolly dont even know who their senators are.

The question is if Hillary was on Obama's ticket, would Palin be the pick? I don't think anyone can answer that yes.

Due to picking second, the GOP had the chance to tailor their pick from the results of the DNC. From all accounts it looks like the question of who it was going to be was pretty unstable to the last minute. It's pretty obvious that their choice was in response to Biden. They knew Biden would kill any of their guys in a debate, so they went with someone with a built in excuse. They also knew without Hillary some of the female vote was up for grabs.

Personally I think both sides should have to present their candidate at the same time. It's like Arena matches where you pre scout your opponent. It's silly, either the person second in the primaries should be VP or simultaneous press releases of the candidates.
