Where's your references for 16/2 or potential 60/10 offers? Why not 55/15? c'mon Number Nazi I don't see your publication of works cited list from reputable sources. Stick to making up delusional shit, maybe someone won't notice.

For reference, I was a former Comcast TV/Internet customer. Are you still using AOL?

What are the actual Provisioned Speeds? Comcast High Speed Internet - dslreports.com It's called Comcast blast. Being a former comcast subscriber you already knew about it right? And you need to learn the definition of 'could' as far as the 60/10 goes.

Wow, at least Hachima and I arguing and baiting was a little bit constructive. What's your excuse?

50gig cap here in a 7 person household, and we rarely break that despite fairly substantial downloading. Yeah Aussie internet blows chunks, but you guys need to stop being such girls. 250gig is so much more than anyone can actually use reasonably.

250 gig is more than most people need in 2008.

With HD video, games, everything requires more bandwidth every year. In 5 years it's going to be substantially higher, in 10 years even more. Just like it was 10 years ago compared to now (was anyone even downloading movies in 1998?). As long as computers keep growing the need for data will keep growing.

This is a move that will let cable and telephone companies milk people for even more money, if these limits stand. I'm hoping they don't. They're archaic. They're like the phone company charging you 10 cents per text message when a text is such a tiny amount of data it's ridiculous.

I'm still hoping that Google will ride in on a white horse and save us with Googlenet if it ever gets that bad (remember the Google-internet-within-the-internet rumors from last year? I can dream. And they seem so ultra powerful sometimes that it doesn't even seem like that much of a fantasy).

1998? Try 1995 my young grasshopper...and guess what? They had download caps! Back in '95 I had to switch to a local ISP instead of using a college connection. With my blazing 33.6K modem I had a 4GB per month quota. Which meant I could only download non stop for 12 days.... It was more than enough for legit use back in the day plus some stealing on the side.

Right, but, my point was the amount of data being transferred in 1998 was tiny compared to now, and it's only going to keep getting higher. If they keep raising the limit as needs increase, then there won't be a problem.

Also, someone made a point about stealing, but watching TV/movies online is becoming more and more legit. There are a lot of sites where you can stream TV shows in high quality already. Networks are doing it more and more (adding commercials so they get their revenue). So it's not just thieves who have something to worry about here.

I personally watch all my favorite shows on the computer instead of the TV; the quality is way better, I've got my bigass headphones for better sound, and I can pause it when I gotta pee. At the moment I have to torrent most shows, but, when the networks make them available to stream, I'll probably do that instead (unless it's a show that I want to keep a copy of, like House. But most I just watch then delete once I'm done seeding).

Isn't it the case that for broadcast network shows, copyright doesn't apply and they can be recorded and shared without censure ?

Is the service with the cap going to be cheaper?

Yea I think you've summed it up perfectly. The cap is fine for today's standards but those standards are going to go up. I don't have faith that Comcast won't use these caps to their own advantage in the future (especially in areas like mine where they are the only option for high-speed Internet). Although hopefully by the time they could do that, there will be some legitimate competition (wireless something, hopefully).

As far as illegal stuff goes, a year ago I'd guess that 99% of the media I got online was illegal (torrent mostly). That is down to about 50% now as I find it easier to stream things legitimately. As advertising continues to catch up with online media, then I think everyone would agree that illegal downloading will decrease and streaming will go up. The point is that you can't just say "well the caps are fine as long as you aren't downloading illegally". Usage is usage and the legality of it is just a short-term issue.
