Yes, there are plenty.. but not 250GB a month of them. What, are you downloading the Linux distro over and over just for fun?

This is going to 'negatively' impact a tiny fraction of people. It's going to benefit a lot more.

3 people sharing a connection at 2.77GB a day is a full game warez release every 3 days. It's a full DVD every day-day and a half. It's 4 DVD rips a day.

It really is plenty. It's a lot more than they could do, that's for sure.

Does it suck? Yes. Being rationed or limited on something you are used to abusing limitlessly sucks. But people will deal with it. You could always go to DSL.. and not even be able to download 250GB in a month if you tried.

That's an extremely short-sighted viewpoint. It doesn't matter what people are using it for. It may be primarily torrents today, but other more legitimate things are consuming more and more bandwidth all the time. I would prefer that we don't go down ye olde slippery slope now and end up with some bullshit pricing scheme a few years later that we can't get rid of. The fact is, cable companies market their shit to be used by people who want to pirate. Nobody with half a brain believes that their advertising about "download at 10x the speed of DSL!" is meant for people who use iTunes. They've massively oversold the bandwidth they have available and now they want to blame it on the customers rather than upgrade their infrastructure in a timely manner.

Having said that, I have no sympathy for anyone complaining about this who lives in an area serviced by FIOS. I would switch off of cable and never look back in a heartbeat if I could. The easiest way to tell Comcast and TW they suck is to stop paying them.

Oh yeah, I forgot about those who download every single fucking copy of linux ever released 20 times a day.

Sorry, but the legitimate use of that much data is almost nil for an single person. Any one person or or group of people who can traffic that much legit data could always spring for a business line or higher tier of service.

I mean in the end do I steal? Yeah sure I do, but I sure as hell dont go complaining to the world when my ISP sets a VERY generous cap on how much I can steal. I mean think just how much 250GB of data is;

40 to 50 games
10 to 15 tv shows
4000-5000 CDs

That is a fuckton of media.

Sure they may of oversold their lines, but browsing youtube and downloading off itunes didnt bring the problem into the spotlight, piracy did.

Anything that highlights the flaws in our pathetic infrastructure is a good thing. People need to bitch about it, cancel their service in favor of superior alternatives, etc. or else the cable cos. will drag their heels forever.

That's VDSL you have in Germany though. Over here it's all still ADSL with very few exceptions, plus similar technologies like FIOS.

If the 250gb cap will never been reached then there is no reason to have a cap, except they plan to fuck you in the ass with charges or smaller caps in the future. Is that down and UP? Because that could easily nail some people if its both.

Also didn't congress give cable company's billions to upgrade the infrastructure? So saying we have to pay more to upgrade it is bullshit. We already paid to upgrade it.

Hey stupid fuck, not everything you download is illegal. Fuck you are retarded. Also apparently I will not hit anywhere near 250BG a month. Since I do not download anything close to a dvd every day.

I'm totally fine with this. To his that amount in a month is so excessive its not even worth arguing about it IMO.

If you don't like the service then switch. Titing about this cap because they have bad service is idiotic. For most people they don't have a fucking choice and would rather get the bandwidth they are paying for than to have the freak seeding 100 torrents a day eating it all up.

As mentioned before it's really not that bad.. now this is going truly ridiculous.

being pushed by Time-Warner that will give users between 5 and 40 gigabytes in total monthly data usage (uploads and downloads combined). Data usage over that amount will be billed at $1 per gigabyte. Competitor Comcast is also considering metered bandwidth.

Seeing as how fucking Houston isn't covered by FIOS, just how widespread is this service?

It's block by block in the areas they service. I moved from route 1 Alexandria, near 95 in Virginia down to Woodbridge, which is about 10 miles, and they don't service my new house. Literally, they are expanding the service block by block. So I expect it to hit me sometime around September 2015. Fucking sucks.

I love how technology takes a step backwards because people are idiots.

Comcast is a disgrace to technology and needs to go bankrupt.

I am surprised by the number of responses that act as if this was a positive change.

Those of you who harp on how pirates are the cause of this and people shouldn't be downloading this or that need to take a step back and realize that the content that is being downloaded is not the issue here. Someone downloading/uploading 250 gigs of illegal shit vs. legal shit is another debate all together. The issue here is the cap, most people think 250 gigs is a reasonable size well what about 200 gigs? 150? 100? This is the first cap put into place there is nothing stating that they will keep 250 the cap permanently. In fact the way they are going about it is somewhat smart since they can simply state "This cap will not effect 99.9% of our users." then every Tom, Dick, and Retard will go about their daily lives with no forethought that bandwidth usage is going to continue to increase exponentially; what is considered reasonable today is going to be shit 5-10 years from now.

To use an analogy for the slow among us this change would be akin to Comcast saying we know you all have enjoyed unlimited cable TV for years however since some of you leave the TV on 24/7 and we do not want to upgrade our signal to provide for all the people we signed up for service you can now only watch TV 200 hours per month. Some of you will go "Well good people don't need to watch more than 200 hours of TV" those of you who thought that should be sterilized, nobody wants you taking to make choices on their behalf.

It is criminal they are allowed to oversell service and not provide the promised speeds you already pay for let alone dick you on the amount of usage you get out of the service. Just like the telecoms industry the cable service wants a slice of overage fees and other bullshit that they can tack on while simultaneously holding on to an old shitty infrastructure system instead of upgrading the network to properly deliver the service they already promise but a mass majority of people never see.

I bet people who are for this change are the same cocksuckers who want net neutrality to go away so not only can they limit the service they can also prod your asshole with a tier based service as well. I can see it now.

Basic Internet - Tier 1 website access 10mb speed, All other Tiers 1mb with 50gig cap at - $ Rape.99 per month

Internet Plus - Tier 1 and Tier 2 website access 10mb, All other Tiers 1mb speed with 200gig cap at - $ Forcefully Raped.99 per month

Unlimited Internet - All Tier access at 10mb speeds at - $ Violently Raped.99 per month.

*Unlimited Internet capped at 250gig per month

Which will be shortly followed by on peak and off peak internet hours with usage on the weekends. It is like many of you have forgotten how shitty AOL was with it's X hours of usage plans and are all to eager to sign back up for this shit without a second glance. Well fuck that and fuck you for acting as if this is a good idea.
