There is no difference to him, the difference is whether the justice system perpetuates this cycle of punishment and repeat offenses, or actually attempts to rehabilitate the offenders and reduce the chance that this type of offense will occur again.

Some people will continue to break the law no matter what you do. There will always be those beyond the help of society. It'll be interesting to hear what the hell snapped in this guy. From all reports he was a normal guy, worked delivering newspapers and part time at McDonald's. His bosses have said he was a good worker, and a nice guy overall. It seems like something just fucking snapped. Depending on what his mental health is, he may not even see trial, he may simply be committed for treatment for the rest of his life.

Truth be told, while I don't support capital punishment nor every vigilante asshole walking around with a Desert Eagle in his belt, it would probably be best for everyone if he'd just rushed the cops and they'd blown him away. It's a shame it didn't work out that way really.

Oh and someone mentioned that maybe he snapped from being on the bus too long. He'd only been on for a couple hours max.

Also, initial reports said that he was "large" according to passengers, however at a brief court appearance he only looked to be 5'8".
