+17 Internets | Obama vs. McCain II New Poll: If you had to vote today, who would you vote for? Thread Rules: No discussion about stuff not related to Obama, McCain or the presidential election. Try not to get into pissy fights about who said what. Try to back up what you say with facts/links that aren't bullshit (Like Xanga, Khorum) Keep the posts under like 5 sentences so I don't get bored reading them(semi-joking). +4 Internets | I'm too torn. I think I might vote third party today just to toss my vote in a useless electoral state on a pile that sort of would show some legitimacy for a real third party option. I looked at the third parties and their candidates a while ago though and it was somewhat disturbing. Clowns for the most part it seemed. But then again so are the big two. |

Indifference isn't the answer though, you should look around and you'll find individuals and campaigns that reflect your views, those are more gratifying since your participation/contributions have more immediate results. The switch to privatized housing vouchers in Chicago started by small group of community and business activists and a young alderman a few years ago. Same thing with the efforts to realize a school voucher program for CPS. | |

| McCain. Not perfect by any stretch but I dislike even more government involvement which is exactly what Obama is preaching. No the republicans haven't been guilt free of this in the past but none of them are currently running a massively increasing an already bankrupt health care subsidy program. Naturally baggers can't be too choosy. I also feel that there is a better chance of a snowball surviving in hell than anything of substance getting discussed much less done. Unfortunately all we are going to hear is: "We need to fix the ridiculous run up in energy / food price" "We need to hold traders and speculators accountable" "We need to hold oil companies accountable" "We are going to hold a special blue ribbon committee, force these creeps to testify in front of Congress and get to the bottom of whats happening" "We need to make sure the Iraq government gets on its two feet and get out of there ASAP" "We need to stop spending so much money" "We need to increase government spending on X, Y and Z projects" Naturally nothing of substance will end up getting done, things will continue to be gridlocked and people will continue to vote a long the party line because its easier to do that than it is to actually fix the problems. I also feel that Obama has gotten a mostly free ride by the press during the democratic primary and I think that the honey moon is over. He can expect to be questioned and nit picked much more often now that the two favorites are in the lime light. Something he hasn't really had to deal with yet. You think energy is our biggest issue? Hah. Fuck no. We'll eventually get off the oil teat with technological improvements. Whether its oil secreting bacteria, plentiful / cheap hydrogen, nuclear, wind, solar or whatever eventually people are going to get fed up with high energy costs and innovate. Social Security Medicare Directly as a result the National debt Those are the biggest issues long term. Reason being is once you promise $$ its becomes much harder to take it away. Lots of big changes need to happen NOW and its not going to happen. We'll get a few stop gap measures to bridge us a few years at a time until its entirely in shambles. You want to fix things? One way or another get rid of everyone in power right now in the Federal government. Install term limits and make any special interest contact or money criminal. Every bill should be voted on by itself, no more huge packages with one good thing and thirty earmarks attached to it. Vote them individually and let them be vetoed individually. This is better than a line item veto IMO. My bet is that would be the only and best way to get us back on the right track. As it stands now we'll continue to sink into mediocrity and bankruptcy. Its only fiat money anyways so why not piss it away like its nothing.

| There appears to be more to this McCain shakeup than they are letting out. Hillary had many shakeups to try to defeat the Obama campaign that is superior in every way. Now McCain is following in her footsteps. Neocon jackass Bill Kristol writes: Quote:
