Yeah but I think McCain fits the bill of Kerry in the 2004 election more than Obama does. Wide sweeping platitudes about what Americans are most likely to do or how only racists vote for McCain are pretty dumb. It's not like the EU is the largest economic power in the world or anything...with a GDP larger than the US. But that has absolutely no effect on the US at all obviously.

1) Don't act like Bush ran some Rag-tag campaign. While the man himself is a terrible public speaker, his campaign was run with brilliant deviance. Pushing voter initiatives on gay marriage, for example. They knew how to generate voter turnout. Karl Rove, like him or hate him, knows how to push buttons.

2) Candidates aren't defined by the hollywood elite who support them, as much as the talking heads of the Republican party would love you to think that.

3) In this campaign, McCain is filling the role of John Kerry because he is the candidate who is considered the 2nd choice. Kerry was the 2nd option, the lesser evil if you will, to a president that less than half the country approved. This campaign is a referendum on Obama. It could not be more obvious. Just look at the latest NBC poll. 40+ percent of likely obama voters are voting for him with enthusiastic support. ~14% of McCain supporters are voting for him for the same reason. The Majority of McCain supporters are voting for him because they view him as the lesser of 2 evils. Who does that sound like to you?

Also Kerry was seen as out of touch. McCain cant use a teh intarwebs and his family puts $500,000 on credit cards in one month.

Kerry had a rich wife. McCain has a rich (2nd) wife.

Kerry was labeled out of touch for being too elitist, too french, wind surfing etc.
