Gun ban overturned.

If you'd like to buy a gun, Etoille, I know a great place here in TX to get one.

Edit: CNN's take. It's a decent overview of the opinion, not great, but decent. High court strikes down gun ban - CNN.com

Thankfully I don't live in a state with silly bans. It's nice to see this decision.

Guns aren't scary. The fact you've never fired one is why you think they are. They don't go off by themselves or magically wake up in the night and kill people.

Id very much like to see a statistic about kids being killed by their parents gun because they were toying with it versus kids being killed in their parents house by robbers/junkies/whatever.

Now I just need to trick Sean Hannity into breaking into my house and I can legally kill him. This was a great decision by the court. I highly support it. Gun bans only keep guns in the hands of the bad guys.

So for the pro side...

Quote:
In March, two women went before the justices with starkly different opinions on the handgun ban.

Shelly Parker told the court she is a single woman who has been threatened by drug dealers in her Washington neighborhood.

"In the event that someone does get in my home, I would have no defense, except maybe throw my paper towels at them," she said, explaining she told police she had an alarm, bars on her windows and a dog.

"What more am I supposed to do?" Parker recalled asking authorities. "The police turned to me and said, 'Get a gun.' "
And for the con side...

Quote:
Elilta "Lily" Habtu, however, told the high court that she supports the handgun ban, and tighter gun control in general. Habtu was in a Virginia Tech classroom in April 2007 when fellow student Seung-Hui Cho burst in and began shooting. She survived bullets to the head and arm.

"There has to be tighter gun control; we can't let another Virginia Tech to happen," she told the court. "And we're just not doing it; we're sitting around; we're doing nothing. We let the opportunity arise for more massacres."
Because Virginia Tech is in Washington, DC! What a stupid argument. You have a person actually under the gun ban in DC, fearing for her life and living with bars on her windows, then you have a Virginia Tech survivor talking about something happening in Blacksburg, Virginia. I realize the high court's decision has far-reaching implications, but the dichotomy presented between these two women is silly. A handgun ban in a violent urban area contrasted against a shooting at a school in rural Virginia seems to be a stretch. The sticking point for me would be that shotguns are best for home defense, not pistols. You just don't miss with a shotgun in those close quarters. Getting it unlocked/assembled and loaded in time might be a problem, though.

I'd like to know if the parent was a retard and had the gun out in the open / not locked up.

My roomate and I both own multiple guns. They are locked up in a small locker in one of our closets away from our range/carry bullets which are locked up in another room.

I don't understand how people can't understand gun safty. Yes, I understand that some people may own them for safty reasons, such as fear of a robber etc... but at least parents need to have the fucking common sense to put the gun in an out of sight out of reach location for the kid or in a locked / yet easily accessible location.

The only times our guns leave their locked locations are when we goto the range or clean them.

I'm not huge into gun bans but I do believe they shouldn't be sold at gun shows, there's no way that you can have a truly thorough background check at one of those.

The Constitution doesn't read "[T]he right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed... except when children are involved". The right is absolute.

I have an 18" Remington 870 I keep loaded with 000 buck (in addition to my Sig 1911 that also stays loaded) However, it's a common misconception about shotguns that they have a wide pattern at indoor distances.

Guns don't go off accidentally by themselves. What I said is perfectly true. I've seen that video many times.

He had his finger on the trigger holstering it I believe. Pretty sure that was a .40S&W, too.
