Native resolution on a 22" widescreen is only 1680x1050.

Compare this with 24" at 1920x1200 or 30" at 2560x1600.

Verdict is, those $500 x2 cards are going to be completely wasted on that low resolution. Youre best off sticking with a single ATI 4870 card or nVidia 285GTX if you want to splurge a little. You still have the option down the road to add another card in SLI / Crossfire, but I cant imagine any game requiring that at the resolution youre playing at... especially WoW.

Newegg.com - XFX PVT98GYDLU GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Hey guys, I just bought last week and I just noticed that this thing is running super hot after longer sessions and giving display corruption and crashes. I don't know a whole lot about replacing video card cooling. Can anyone recommend a replacement or should I just RMA this for a different card?

Try downloading Rivatuner and just manually force the fan up higher. How is your case cooling?

I've got an 8800GT i know they're the same chip dunno about the cooling solution. Get Rivatuner and set it to 80% all the time. I also pulled the heat sink and used Arctic Silver 5 on it. Did that and mine never gets above 55c even under load.

The only time my video card goes above that is on the login screen for WoW with the Frost Wyrm my comp has sat at that screen for hours and driven my video card up to 90c the EJ Performance and Tweaks thread had a link for the perfect solution.
BlackLoginScreen : WoWInterface Downloads : Miscellaneous
It just replaces the login screen video with solid black. Zero load on my video card fixes the problem entirely.

Rest of the case seems to be running under normal temps but I am going to keep an eye on it the next few days. I ordered some Artic Silver and I'll snag Riva when I get home. Hopefully it helps because having a fan blow into my open case is pretty unsightly.

Is there a drastic difference between stock case fans and aftermarket? My ignorace on this matter is pretty high =(.

So, I finished assembling my computer. Problem: It's not turning on. When I hit the power switch, two of the fan LEDs flicker up for half a second, but nothing else happens.

Hopefully the PSU isn't dead... I've been looking forward to some serious gaming. Any idea what it could be?

Fan lights come on, then off?

Try disconnecting everything thats unnecessary. Hook your PSU to your MB with CPU and 1 stick of RAM only. See if you can hear the POST beeps. If that doesnt work, swap with a different stick of RAM, if that doesnt work try the RAM in a different slot. Etc etc.

Most common DOA item is RAM in my experience.

Just a short blink, yeah. I unplugged them and now there's a green light on the MB that blinks for a fraction of a second. Going to try your suggestion and see if I can get it to start with only a CPU and one RAM stick.

Perfect, starts up fine now. Maybe I connected something loosely before.

If you hook it all back up and it gives problems again, go back to where you had the MB, CPU, 1 RAM only and add 1 item at a time (partiularly ram) to isolate if you have a faulty piece of hardware.

Another small thing is that not every power connector needs to be plugged in for your system to run. Things like the 8-pin CPU power on my board only needs a 4-pin to run. When the 8-pin was in, nothing turned on at all.

It's probably just a bug where your fan is staying on a low setting, say 20%, and not kicking on when it gets hot. As others have said, force it to 60% or whatever you're comfortable with, and see if that gets things reasonable. A GPU is fine running at 70-80C, so long as you're not overclocking. Of course the lower the better, but considering a GPU has a useful life of less than 2 years in most cases, it's not a huge concern to keep them super cooled.

I have a question. I am building a beefy system.

I am going to be using the DFI X58-T3eH6 board if possible. I want to use 24GB of ram (This is supported per the product specs on DFIs site). Thing is -- this system needs to be rock-solid stable, as it will be running some high end stuff and reliability is very important. Therefore, I decided to use the "recommended" memory the manufacturer recommends.

Problem arises that the manufacturers recommended memory only caps out at 2GB sticks of memory, and there are only 6 memory slots on the board, so it appears that 16GB is maximum. But if I did 4GB sticks it will total 24GB but there are no 4GB sticks on the list.

What memory would be recommended for this setup, and should I just get another board in general?

Thanks!

well if it needs to be rock solid stable you need to use ECC ram, sticks bigger then 4gb are made but REALLY expensive.

and 2gb * 6slots is 12gb chief, not 16.
