Hybrids are still a blip on the overall car market. Even with the $4/gal gas.

I'm not even sure how long the supply of Uranium we have would last if we used it for more of our purposes such as powering our electric cars.
I hear Iran has a lot of uranium...

If we had spent much time developing electric cars we would be alot farther along. Instead we liked to buy gas

Uh, and you'd win a shitload of awards for figuring that one out, too.

Eh no ones gonna start chasing after what seems like a dead end tech. Even with many battery advances in the last 20 years electric cars are barely usable. The best upcoming electric cars under 35k will run at around 100 miles on battery charge.

When gas is under 2 bucks a gallon or even a dollar a gallon who the hell cares. Now that electric cars are becoming economical and batteries are kind of sufficient for normal use people are developing them.

True but the best in the 100k category have a range of 220 miles, a battery life of 100,000 miles, take 3.5 hours to fully charge, have a top speed of 125 miles, accelerating from 0-60 in 4 seconds.

The technology is there, like everything else in the world bringing the price down is just a matter of the demand warranting mass production.

I dunno man, lithium ion batteries cost a fuckton. Lithium-ion batteries are also used in so many applications so it's not like the cells are rare.

The chevy volt battery costs like $20k or so I hear. I have to look it up.

The Tesla probably costs a good deal more. The hybrid makers are going with cheaper batteries (toyota is using and will continue to use NIMH) and a smaller size.

That isn't just a big "if", it's a 30-storey-monolith-built-out-of-black-granite-"if". Fusion power is still an ultra long term dream unless someone makes a quantum leap past the massive science and engineering blockages in current implementation.

That could happen tomorrow or not for 50-100 years, not something to base one's hopes on.

The real question is what sort of innovations, if any, they are using to make their design more efficient than traditional hydrogen powered vehicles. The status quo seems to heavily favor electric and even gas electric over hydrogen power. I believe that hydrogen combustion is actually less efficient than hydrogen fuel cells which makes this new hydrogen vehicle dubious at best.

Unfortunately Congress is too busy bickering as usual to get any real work done.
Most people would charge at night during off peak hours when there is a massive excess of electrical production (it takes days to ramp up/down nuclear reactors, dams produce the same energy 24/7 etc). Most people would be using what is essentially waste electricity.
