After that article there was a link to another article discussing how it actually costs more than a penny to make a penny. In fact, producing nickels and pennies result in us losing ~100 million a year. Maybe this was common knowledge, but I had no idea and I found this to be a very interesting statistic. I hate change of all types and it is one of the main reasons that I pay for everything with a debit/credit card.

Doesn't have to be different sized money, though I think that's a good idea in general. (easy to get the bill you want, without having to take them all out)

For the visually impaired, a small symbol for each denomination is enough to assist them. They can feel the symbol and identify the denomination with it.

They do?

Still costs me 25c/50c to play whatever I want at my local arcade. $1 if step on a DDR machine but thats about 7-8 minutes which is pretty good in my mind.

I throw pennies in the garbage. The only reason I ever use pennies is to prevent myself from getting more pennies. Pennies need to be eliminated no question or argument about it. Probably nickels too, but I'd be fine with just pennies. They are 100% worthless.

when i went to australia they had a plastic money. it was almost impossible tear with your hands. also each bill had a different texture used to prevent counterfeiting but also, blind people could feel what bill was because of that texture / layout of the bill.

also they got rid of pennys.

Yeah, in NZ the money is even different sizes depending on denomination, and have see through clear windows as well. It would be extremely difficult to counterfeit, although I'm sure some enterprising asians with a laser jet will manage it sooner or later. Damn asians.

But yeah, for true, I typically exactly 4 pennies, one nickel, two dimes and a couple quarters so that if I'm buying cash I will only end up with bills and loonies/toonies back. It's infuriating though, because most register biscuits look at you funny when you hand them the exact change, and they've probably already wrung in an even $20 or whatever they saw me pull out of my wallet, and the mental gymnastics to figure out that I want $16 back instead of $15.72 back is far past their ability.

Clerks get mad when I give them only the pennies instead of the full change. For example, I'll give $10.04 for a $7.29 charge, but then they complain I didn't give them the quarter yet they'd silently struggle even more for the 71 cents rather than 3 quarters.

They should shut up and give me the good coins while I toss them the scraps.

I use my debit card wherever they take it and don't give me some bullshit charge on it.
