heh, nah, the posting styles are too different. If that is the case, he's a genius. Personally I think a lot of the people that disagree with Khorum don't give him enough credit. He's easily one of the most well read and intelligent posters on these boards. He frequently lays down some pretty huge bitch slaps on people who really should just have kept their mouths shut and realized they were only digging themselves deeper holes by continuing to feed him ammo.

That of course doesn't mean he's right, any of the time or all of the time. That's the funny thing about ideologues. Common sense would dictate that if someone was truly "intelligent", that they'd always agree with another intelligent person. But naturally, we see that for damn near any viewpoint (whether that be ideology, religion, whatever) there's some incredibly well spoken and smart people that vehemently disagree with their equivalents across the aisle. That doesn't necessarily mean that one is smarter or dumber than the other.

The reality is that most people, and Schatze can probably do a far better job explaining this than I, frequently arrive at their opinions or ideologies LONG before they've given it any serious sober thought. Instead they formulate their opinions based on their own emotions, prejudices and biases, and only THEN do they go about rationalizing their beliefs. And naturally, very intelligent people are very, very good at rationalizing their beliefs, no matter how fucked up, extreme, or wrong they may be.

So no, I don't think Khorum is a troll or a parody, and I don't think he's an idiot. I just think he's got some pretty extreme views on things, but the second I try to honestly argue with him, I get my ass handed to me because he's obviously well educated and trained to participate in said arguments, while I am very well educated and trained in not eating with the hand I work with. That doesn't mean he's right.

i agree with you in part eomer. khorum might be a troll but its very obvious how well read he is.

the reason i think hes a troll is because i dont think he actually believes in total some of the stuff he says. which is the definition of trolling.

i think he says stuff that is logical and well read to get a reaction - if only to play devils advocate sometimes. being well read means you know the arguments on both sides and are equipped to argue either.

which tbh is why i see a lot of the lawyers on this board able to argue with each other and still walk away with respect for each other and i still have respect for them and khorum even though i disagree with em a lot of the time *shrug*

for all the flak lawyers get - theyre trained to see both sides of an argument and can agree to disagree by appreciating the other persons stance if well argued. typically it doesnt disintegrate to name calling and the like. but its like matt damon said in rounders: "You dont see pirahnas eating each other."

Maybe. I've tried reading some of his posts with that in mind, and from my perspective anyway, typically they don't read like that at all. He's a true believer. I think.

Apparently the wave of ignorance knows no bounds.

Yes, so first, the very first thing to do, is kneejerk.

This is like trying to reason with a 4 year-old. KK YOU GAIZ ARE RIGHT.

Since you opened the door the guilt-by-association game , I'm more concerned about Obama's friend Bill Ayers saying he wishes he'd bombed the U.S. more (recall that he did bomb the Pentagon and the Capitol).

Anyway, I doubt Hagee has that much influence on McCain. Otherwise McCain wouldn't be appearing on Ellen.

But sidling away from the derail, the only way we'll attack Iran anytime soon is to take out an active facility supporting their nuclear program. It would only be an aerial incursion to bomb the shit out of it, and even then it would almost certainly be Israel rather than the U.S. who did the deed - note what happende in Syria not that long ago, when the Syrians with their North Korean scientists were about to get that reactor going. The only people who think Bush will invade Iran or otherwise attack them except in those very limited circumstances are in the final throws of severe and terminal Bush Derangement Syndrome and aren't worth listening to as a result.
