Ehh...That market only exists because of the demand. It's the American CEO's that are choosing to do business with China.

How do you propose the chinese government is supposed to earthquake proof households for over a billion people? Even if they enforced strict guidelines for construction, they would never be able to retroactively fix all of the existing structures in our lifetime.

This is different, we're not talking about maintaining a fixed structure like a levy or dam, in the case of Katrina.

i'm not attacking people who want to help. what pisses me off is when people like celebrities ask for money.

Some people see others in need and feel a desire to assist. Regardless of the political and economic situations that exist between their nation and our own. The issue for some is that humans are in need. Its not a minor travesty. A couple dudes ram some planes into a building and the world flips the fuck out. 50k die and millions get displaced and its "get the fuck off my TV greedy chinks".

maybe not but their priorities aren't as good as they can be. i wasn't very clear in my other posts. i'm not trying to attack china for wanting our money. but i don't like them for their lack of efforts in improving the lives of their citizens. especially considering they spend so much effort on things like the military.

same goes for usa

If I was in charge of China, I would send the foreign aid right back. I would never take a handout, but that's just me.

I don't think minor setbacks like this even hurt China. They're trying to get their population under control anyway, and they're building infrastructure so quickly, this Earthquake just saves them the trouble of tearing old buildings down.

I didn't want to say that since I'm a chink, but it's probably true. If anything this will allow the Chinese government the opportunity to seize property and set-up infrastructure or relocate citizens without much opposition.

Yes i feel confident you would stoically refuse financial assistance after a natural disaster robbed you of all possessions. March on brave warrior march on!

50k dead and one city in ruins is nothing to that nation as a whole.

I give the Chinese credit for not getting emo about relatively small numbers of people dying. Some non-event like the Virginia Tech massacre happens and people get all weepy-eyed with around the clock coverage. It's a means for the masses to adopt other people's emotions via the news because they're too lazy to go through the life experiences that will allow them to come up with their own. It's like, "I think I'll have some tragedy with my eggs and bacon this morning." It comes down to laziness.

I didn't say I would refuse financial assistance in the form of a loan. I said I wouldn't take charity. You'll have to believe me that I wouldn't bother lying to you, it's just not worth my time. Possessions can be replaced. Dignity cannot. Like I said though, this is just me personally, so you don't need to get all offended like I'm trying to impose my opinions on you.

Ignorance.

China has only had about thirty years to get to the state that it currently is in. I am sorry that their standards and priorities are not the exact same as ours. I think we have had a little more time to progress. Lets not forget that China has more problems than just time, including an obscenely large population and large language barriers between their own people.

You blame China for us losing jobs and them owning our debt? Fuck, that is retarded. Zarcath is right when he says it is because of our demand. We caused this problem, they simply gave us what we wanted. They let us live our extravagant lives of overspending and undersaving, how dare them actually request payment for their services! And when a tragedy occurs in their country they most certainly can not ask for help because they took so much money from us !!

And yes, China did ask for help from multiple countries. Some of you all do not read, you'd rather just make up this shit as you go along (or perhaps all you read is CNN).

The only reason people are so indignant towards China is because as a whole, China terrifies the US. The news only focuses on the negatives of China and never, ever writes a single story about the incredible growth in China and how it is every single day improving their lives. Anything people learned in school about China has already drastically changed, so without either living in China or actively reading intelligent news / reading modern books about China they will have no idea what it is actually like.

Ideally when a country economically threatens us, we get motivated to become more creative and productive. However, all we do now is get angry and cry over China's current progress. Instead of as a whole there being a national push towards higher education and a harder work ethic we wallow away in states of declining science related degrees and in depression over the loss of our precious manufacturing careers. The great thing about competition is that it makes people more proactive and leads towards change for the better, however that does nothing for the US when we feel so damn entitled and god damn lazy.
