+6 Internets | I think you are missing the larger point that even with several very vocal conservative posters, very little is posted about McCain. Parallels can be drawn to the Bush/Kerry race in 04. If a party doesn't give it's voters something to be for, only something to be against, such as the Dems did with Bush/Kerry, well then that spells voter dismay. |

Gore, Kerry and McCain do not enjoy this advantage. That advanatge is what is allowing Obama to dominate the news cycle (along with careful calculations im sure). The only negative that goes along with this sort of advantage is what id like to call the Donnie Darko/Bondock Saints syndrome, and you see it on these boards, esp in Khorum and a few others. Donnie Darko and Bondock Saints are not great movies, at best they are average but they enjoy an undeserved number of fans, so much so that me, being a bit of a film snob, cant help but label those fans as idiots and point out that the movies really arent that good on any sort of objective criterion. You see the same in thing in Khorums posts, which are largely a reaction to the amount of undeserved "fans" he thinks Obama has, labeling them as idiots that dont really understand politics and dont know the "truth" about Obama. However I disagree that Obama is analogous to those films, Obama is a masterful politician, if hes a film hes Citizen Kane. Think citizen kane is boring, think being the 1st film to ever use low angle shots, abundant use of long shots etc doesnt really matter but one can not deny the influence of Citizen Kane. And as much as i love to bash Donnie Darko fans, and as much as Khorum loves to bash obama fans, Donnie Darko made a shit ton of money, deservedly or not. Its the same with Obama, idiots and pyschophants may buy into his hype too much, its def an arguable point, but at the end of the day it doesnt matter because those idiots and pyschopants vote. Again Donnie Darko made a shit ton of money.

| Thanks for further illustrating my point. Boondock saints is average at best but its legions of misguided fans have made it a success and contributed to a culture where if you do not like the film you are a "fag". Again I think obama is above average, but even if he is just average it doesnt matter, his legions of "misguided fans" will make him a success and if you dont like Obama you'll be a "backwards racist" The inclusive quality of this is important, i honestly dont care about being called a "fag" and im willing to bet Khorum doesnt mind being called a racist but a large number of people (the misguided fans as it were) dont want to be labled a fag or a racist, they want to be part of the group that celebrates its love for its "awesome" film/candidate. The analogy knows no bounds. And just like my railing against those shitty films wont change thier success, shining light on the truth that they are mediocre, Khorum and his ilk's railing against Obama wont change his success. Like it or not success panders to the lowest common denominator, misguided fans decide elections (or box office/DVD sales) and the misguided fans are with Obama.

Ignorant, far-out stunts and lame posturing sums up Boondock Saints. Billy Connolly is supposed to be some kind of gun-toting badass. BILLY CONNOLLY? It's a horrible movie that so, so very badly wants to by stylish and fails horribly. Terrible acting (aside from DaFoe) and terrible writing. Thank god Troy Duffy has been duly punished by life for releasing this menace on society. Troy Duffy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Overnight - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia | |

| I prefer Amores Perros but im not trying to derail this into film discussion. I was just trying to illustrate Obama's dominance of discussion here and elsewhere is largely due to his celebrity. His celebrity causes him to have lots of fans, having lots of fans causes people like Khorum to react and talk about how he doesnt deserve so many fans which only further rallies Obama's fans. It a cycle. I thought the film analogy would help demonstrate what i meant.

| More Muslim smears from FOX News print version: Obama Should Embrace His Muslim Heritage - WSJ.com This is ridiculous. This is your Republican party at work trying their best to swift boat Obama from their media. Being a Muslim is worse than being a child rapist and serial killer combined and they know it. This is how they will try to take him down. Last edited by I'm Rich Bitch : 07-04-2008 at 12:49 PM. |
