At so many points in that article does James Dobson fail at logic. Literally, basic logic destroys him.

which is weird because religious guys are known for using razor sharp logic in their reasoning.

some of what jesus said is fairly radical and certainly not practiced by our government, republicans especially.

and yeah, even going by the new testament it's ok to have slaves. if you are a christian you may own a slave.

This. This was also what I said about Rev. Wright. It's like people expect religious people to not be crazy for some reason.

Yeah thousands of years of great philosophers including Thomas Aquinas, Anslem, Origen, Martin Luther, and Erasmus have shown that religion degrades the philosophical powers of man. I would rather believe that I have grown accustomed to people having coherent thought processes and the modern world has been a huge letdown. Dobson is a hack and a powermonger, which is why his words carry weight these days. It's not about being able to reason people to your side but the ability to inflame passion in people with your views. (and yes I am aware that people will say that Obama is just like that, but he is also a person with the capability to bring people around to a compromise is the most important trait of his.)

Yeah, none of those people mentioned were preachers.

Does what Dobson say really matter to anyone with half a braincell ? He is not supporting either candidate.

Dobson and all these nutty religious guys do matter because they have a huge number of people who follow them and do what they tell them. Without the evangelicals it is doubtful McCain could win as they are a core Republican group.

Dobson is bringing up and taking out of context something that Obama said in 2006. It is very curious why he is bringing it up now. As part of his justification for bringing it up he mentioned that "Rush Limbaugh was right." That tells me that he did not actually hear the entire speech he is referring to but is just dittoing something Rush Limbaugh said. In general Republicans are all just dittoheads. Rush Limbaugh is the real Leader of the Republican party. That is sad.

My guess is he did this attack now because several members of his congregation are becoming Obama supporters and he wanted to put a stop to it.

Hey Red-Staters,

Pack your duffel bags because your asses are going to war with a McCain Presidency. I hear Iran has nice weather this time of year.

Thank You,
John McCain

Quote:
Only World War III would prompt Republican presidential candidate John McCain to bring back the military draft, McCain said on Tuesday.
Quote:
NEWT GINGRICH, FORMER SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE: We're in the early stages of what I would describes as the Third World War.

KING: Senator McCain, do you agree?

MCCAIN: I do to some extent. I think it's important to recognize that we have terrorist organizations which -- who are dangerous by themselves, are now being supported by radical Islamic governments, i.e., the Iranians, which makes them incredibly more dangerous because they are trained, equipped, motivated and assisted in every way by the Iranians. So that it's the Iranians that gave them the rockets that they are reigning down on Haifa as we speak.

That transcript is from 2006. McCain has already made up his mind that he is going to war with Iran in the same way that Bush knew he was going to war with Iraq while he was still governor of Texas.

McCain, a Vietnam veteran, said the draft during that conflict weighed most heavily on lower-income Americans, and that this should not be repeated.
"I do not believe the draft is even practicable or desirable," McCain said.
Way to pick and choose, douchebag.

you know what i love?

romney would be such a stronger candidate than mccain. but the evangelicals which the republicans let loose in their party drove romney out with the help of a man they didnt like (huckabee) who worked to assure his constituency (the crazies) would vote for mccain (a former moderate that the republicans dont particularly like) because god forbid a mormon be the president.

LOL stupid stupid religious fucks. they forgot to ask themselves one vital question: which was worse? a pro choice pro gay marriage liberal or a mormon?

the republican party really really shit the bed on their candidate choice.

To be honest, Romney wouldn't have been a stronger candidate. And given how weak McCain is, that's a testament to just how fucked the GOP is this election cycle. Conservative voter turnout will be somewhat depressed due to a lack of enthusiasm with McCain, but he will pick up independents that Romney would have had no chance at. McCain at least has some chance at preventing a total rout if he can somehow figure out how to get conservatives enthused about him (rather than just fearful of Obama). At the end of the day, this election is either going to be an Obama massacre or an Obama victory -- I really cannot see any realistic eventuality in which McCain wins the presidency.
