You know, I think it's high time this sport and all sports like it that put animals in high risk activities get banned.

What really disgusted me was how those assholes were laughing up while a horse lay dead out on the track. What the hell is wrong with these people? I bet if a jockey was all sprawled out in the dirt they wouldn't have been so euphoric.

Fucking savages.

You don't think that might be because one is a person, and the other is a horse has anything to do with it do you? I'm glad you value animals so highly and have such a highly evolved sense of right and wrong in terms of animal treatment, but realize that the vast majority of the world DOES NOT share your views.

It's no sadder than farm animals dying every day to become food. Unless it's your pet, it's not really a big deal... It's only sick when people abuse animals.

It sucks that they had to immediately euthanize her but trying to bring it down to the level of say, dog fighting, is just dishonest.

Well, to be fair, the race had just ended and all the people were celebrating the victory. The injury didn't happen until right after the finish line, so nobody in the stands even noticed it at first (because they were celebrating).

You're a moron. Like people have pointed out, most of the audience wasn't aware the horse was dead, they were just celebrating the end of the race. Also, the idea that horse racing is a 'high risk activity' is fucking retarded. These animals are worth millions of dollars and have thousands of hours of time invested in them, all measures are taken to make sure that accidents like this don't happen. Unfortunately, sometime they do, and the horse has to be euthanized (a procedure to prevent pain in suffering - totally SAVAGE right?).

Get a fucking clue.

Horse came in second, collapsed after the finish. Stupid me changed the channel right after the finish so I didn't see it happen.

Actually, the way racing horses are bred (to be as muscular and lightweight as possible), euthanization due to an injury that results directly from fragile bones, joints and ligaments is pretty damn common.

So yeah, for the animals, it most certainly is a high risk activity.
