Fingertip regrowth is nothing new. My mom cut hers off in some kinda sewing accident many years ago, can't even tell. The problem is finding a way to grow MORE than a fingertip. Currently there appears to be a biological disconnect that prevents our cells from doing that on something like an entire limb. There was an article a month or 2 ago on this in one of the science mags. Good read, they're working on figuring out why salamanders regrow limbs, what causes it, and how to manage it. They can regrow a foot at any point on a salamander's leg now, so they're making some progress, but it's still a LONG way from getting the exact science down, and then transferring that knowledge to humans. | |
