+4 Internets | Need help getting my wireless router to work. Been trying to get it to work for like three hours now. My mom wants to get internet in her room, so we got a wireless DSL router. I've hooked it up, tried to connect, but I get nothing. It says "aquiring network address" on my taskbar, but after a few minutes I get nothing, and the setup program asks me to unplug my router for 10 seconds, then plug it back in. Still nothing. The user name and password I've put in are correct. Tried it with the @bellsouth.net and without it, just to be sure. Still, nothing. Any ideas guys?

| Since I don't know what router you are trying to setup its hard to make any real suggestions. But Bellsouth DSL with Linksys Router may get you started. |

| Could be a great many things. Like Galgor said, try a regular 16-digit encryption (a lot of wireless adapters don't work with more secure encryptions), possibly check for a weak signal (metal in the walls, shitty adapter etc.), |

| How many wireless networks are in your area? If they're all on the same broadcast channel that can screw with your network as well, usually they all default to 6 or 11. Try setting to 1 or 4 (depending on country?) |

| Huh? If thats what a Comcast rep told you, they are full of it and are just trying to rip you off with their setup fees. I have 5-9 PCs/consoles/handheld gaming systems connected to the internet through Comcast with just ONE IP address at any given time. My router uses NAT to share the one IP address for multiple PCs. I didn't choose their lame networking bundle, I didn't op to use ANY of their equipment. I use my own modem and my own router and my own switches. |

| Pride Never Die | The home networking bundle is for the non-tech people that don't even know what a router is let alone hooking up 2+ computers at the same house. Comcast can't control how many computers are connecting to the Internet through your router.

-First of all, you should start by saying what is the model of the DSL router (btw it is always better to separate your modem from your router). -Then the model of the computer or the wireless interface of that computer. To me this sounds like the router is not receiving its address from the DHCP server. Which could mean that you should call your internet provider and see if they have it setup and "activated". This is, if the adquiring network address coming from the router. If it comes from Windows (aka your computer), then there are a number of things that could be wrong. (but I won't go there since it seems like it is a problem with the router) | |
