Tutoring anyone here ever work a tutoring position for a tutoring company? tomorrow i am interviewing for a job with a tutoring company tutoring high school kids in the SATs (i scored a 740 on my math and 640 verbal... i think i would just be doing the math part). anyone ever done this? to be quite i have no idea what i am getting into, i just know i need a job for the summer that doesn't involve a lot of moving around because i could be undergoing ankle surgery. what is the pay like? the lady said i would probably get 10ish hours a week. is it frustrating or fun working with these kids? is it a good resume builder? obviously i'm not trying to do this for a career.

| Do you actually have any ability to TEACH? If not, I'd pass. P.S. Damn I had no idea people getting offered to teach this shit didn't ace their respective SAT sections.

had the interview today everything went good. they gave me some lil math quiz that i knocked out pretty hard. they pay $20 an hour to start with raises every 6 months which sounded pretty good to me, even if i am driving to these people's houses. as for you knob jobs bagging my test scores.. i'm sure they would love to have all tutors who scored 1600s but it seems these people are too busy playing WoW and writing snide comments on online gaming message boards. also, the job calls for good communication skills in person- not the kind over ventrillo or with a keyboard. they're gonna have to settle for the guy who scored a mere 1380 and is very likely to make passes at attractive female clients.

I interviewed with such a place many years ago in college. For the interview, I was to take the full Math SAT portion of the test, which I completed in 15minutes, and scored perfectly on. After this, I was asked to help the interviewer solve a problem as if he knew nothing. They never called me back. Obviously they are looking for people with teaching ability, not just test taking ability.

I think the job mainly entails telling kids the tricks to do the math portion of the SAT (cutting down time to do the rest of the portion) and choosing the longest answer for definitions in the english part.
