Interesting read on a breakthrough on creating oil.

National news media burying amazing oil breakthrough?

How many have actually heard about this? I guess the national media didn't have the slot to fit the story in b/c another celebrity went bananas.

i dont know how different that stuff is from normal trash power plants but i know they built a pilot plant here that turns trash into power.. dont think it uses bacteria tho.

I think the guy is just retarded, the national media doesnt cover lots of shit. If he gets his pilot plant going and its making money then im sure he will find more investors and it will expand, or more likely it will fail and we will never hear about it again, except in conspiracy theories about how the oil companies buried the tech that would have saved us all.

Old news is old. Cellulose-breaking bacteria have been used for a few years now. Not only has Discover magazine done articles on companies turning trash into oil, but History channel even has several shows with segments detailing the process.

How about we find a funner thing to genetically engineer, like bacteria that break apart polyethylene and other plastics? (Go go magic no-more-modern-technology)

didnt bush say in the a speech like last week that he wants to heavily fund cellulousic ethanol, is that the same as this idea or different, i thought the stuff bush was talking about was oil made from grass tho.

As far as media coverage is concerned, there are plenty of outlets for this type of thing. It's not going to be CNN though. Stuff like this gets mentioned all the time in scientific journals like 'Scientific American'

In fact, the world leader in genomic sequencing, gene insertion, designing bacteria, etc., has indicated that this sort of bacteria is possible to create, but it is several years down the road before they can design a bacteria thats metabolism produces hydrocarbons.

This is like the oil shale bullshit. Pump and dump or poor news journalism. In fact, WND has been heavily involved in the bullshit regarding oil shale too. Remember that "huge announcement coming out in 2 weeks about possible 200 billion bbl of reserve in shale? Yeah, that was 3 weeks ago. WND has been running oil shale articles like every 3-4 months as if it's a sudden discovery, when oil shale has been known about for 100~ years. It's just not economical to extract the kerogen and then convert it to usable hydrocarbons and has a negative energy return.

To conclude; bullshit, bullshit, bullshit. WND is worse than the national enquirer, at least the inquirer actually sometimes breaks legitimate stories.

If that article is the basis for your post, I'm glad it isn't getting any press. There is no mention of peer review of the work, only that a couple of newspapers have run the story.

This could end up being just another "ZOMG! Unlimitard en3rgy guyz!" that ends up being an unrealistic solution or one that flat out doesn't work as claimed.

maybe they arent reporting these so called "energy breakthroughs" because when they do and it never pans out they look the fool? when these mad scientists start mass producing cars that run on nothing but ragweed and vegetable casings i will be impressed until then its all hot air.
