Man, I don't understand how everyone isn't on direct deposit by now. Pretty much everyone has a bank, you have a check card that you use to buy shit with, or get cash, or whatever, so you have an account...why fuck around with endorsing checks and standing in line with mexicans at the actual bank?

Yeah, I don't get that either. About as retarded as people who pay with checks anymore. And then balance their book right away.

It's good to be first in line. But i'm not that excited. I plan on putting 100% of it either in my investmests or my mortgage principal (since I've already maxed out my 2008 ROTH IRAs for me and my wife).

Just to slightly defend paper checks, some of us in accounting intensive industries like to have that paper check for the trail. Sure, an electronic trail exists, but at least for myself (as a lawyer), the written word is still god over the electronic word, as the laws and ethics accounting rules haven't exactly caught up to technology completely.

One reason why I still pay all my bills with checks. I might be slightly paranoid over it, but I guess that's what being an accountant has done to me.

after hurricane katrina my apartment was washed away along with their copy of the lease. I always just hit up the ATM right down the road on the way home from work to get the monies for my half of the rent. FEMA told me i couldn't prove I lived there so I had a rough time of it.

the odd thing is that I did prove it 5 times, but they apparently wanted either the lease (which was in the gulf of mexico) or a check as proof. So as far as (at least that part of) the government is concerned, the checks can cover your ass better than going electronic.

Ditto. I do almost everything electronically, but taxes for some reason I always make them send me a check. It just feels good to get money from the government . This time it's gonna cost me 2 months getting my $$ though since my SSN ends in a high number :P.

I thought the same... then I found out they get uber money back because I'm in school and they give all the money to me.

I get about $3,000 back every year.
