its time for a new mouse

I've used the logitech cordless mx duo (MX700 mouse + keyboard) for almost 3 years now and it is dying. My mouse is getting interference at random times, probably because of my metal/glass desk, but I'm tired of it. My keyboard used to have huge problems in CS with interference and delayed/no response to presses, but that seems to be nonexistent now.

I'm leaning towards a corded mouse because there are few things I hate more than my mouse at random times not responding to something. It's hard, I love the convenience of a wireless mouse, not worrying about cord length, etc, but I'd much rather have that than a mouse getting interference.

But damn, the Newegg.com - Logitech MX Revolution Black 7 Buttons 2 x Wheels USB RF Wireless Laser Mouse - Retail looks so sexy.

Any thoughts? I love the feel of my MX700, but the MX revolution looks even more comfortable, except I'd really prefer wired. The mx700 is also a little too heavy and causes wrist pains after extended use.

Get a Ratpad XT to go with whatever mouse you get.

My intellimouse optical outlasted my MX500 three times over, so the last mouse I bought was another one: Amazon.com: Oem Microsoft Intellimouse, 5-Button Optical, USB: Electronics

And the first one I bought was the one that lasted me through my FPS gaming years, the MX500 was for MMO gaming primarily so it didn't get as vigorous usage.

I use a Logitech MX518. It isn't a laser mouse, just the LED thing optical whatever you want to call it.I got the 510 I think about 4 years ago and I loved that it had the two thumbs but also one button above the wheel and two below it.

Alot of mice advertise having X amount of buttons but they are either in awkward places or are a pain in the ass to map for functions outside of adjusting resolution for the optical engine. This one doesn't do that, and having a full compliment of buttons on my mouse in places that don't require I move my fingers from the main buttons is very nice. I don't mind giving up some precision for this feature so the fact that it's optical doesn't really bother me,though I do wish it was a little heavier.

I did buy one of those MS sidewinder mice a little while ago it is quite large which I liked since I find many mice to be quite small but it's buttons I couldn't remap and thus the mouse was useless to me. The weight feature was nice though.

I have a battered old belkin mouse. it has the two normal buttons. the wheel buttons down, and there's a button for the thumb and ring finger. If it dies I swear to god i'm going to track down a new one. the thumb and ring finger button is my back and forward in internet explorer, and i map it all my games.

I've had a logitech MX518 for a couple years now and I love it. I even use the little + and - sensitivity buttons when I'm FPS'ing. And after these couple years, it shows basically NO sign of wear.

I have the MX Revolution and I love it. Smoothest 'feel' to a mouse that I've ever had. Plus all the extra programmable buttons are great. The two side clicks are awesome for browsing. The second wheel on the side is great for quickly zooming in and out if needed, for smaller texts. The battery life is also very long, I don't have to recharge it often.. It's probably the mouse I'll stick with from now on.

MX518 here, branded to match my laptop which is cool. I was skeptical about switching to it from my old Intellimouse, but its been great; and the adjustable sensitivity comes in handy sometimes with games like AudioSurf.

Microsoft Trackball Optical 1.0

Can't tell you how much I love it. And with a trackball, cord length is a non-issue as well.

Love my MX518, even if my last one only lasted about 2 years.

Finally gave up on my shitty wireless microsoft laptop mouse, and ordered another... few months ago. How did I go without

Tables don't cause interference; they cause signal attenuation if they're thick slabs of metal though (several mm in the case of RF devices). Glass will have essentially no response to wireless things due to its insulating properties. You seem to be kind of set on getting a new mouse, but do you have multiple wireless devices? One problem with many of them is that they all use the same 2 or 3 frequencies, so you get reliability issues if you (or even neighbors) are broadcasting over short distances.
