| Random law enforcement question... Anyone know what US department would be involved in cases of human trafficking? I'd search but I'm in a rush and have no time. Thanks! |

| The criminal section of the Civil Rights Division at DOJ prosecutes human trafficking cases.

| If you want to do that via law enforcement, your best bet is signing on with ICE. Each region has its own trafficking unit, but it's sort of a hot field right now so you might have to wait awhile to get assigned to it. If you can get into the FBI, you've also got a great shot at working on trafficking stuff. My impression is that civil rights is one of the easier FBI dockets to get on. Department of Labor and Diplomatic Security Service also touch trafficking cases here and there, though neither typically has primary responsibility and I don't know that DSS has ever been particularly involved on the trafficking aspect of the trafficking cases they work. Those are really the only law enforcement options where you can hope to consistently work on trafficking. You may have some luck getting a case or two with one of the bigger metropolitan police departments, but it's really hit or miss and even a good one will likely only get you a case or two a year (and even that's unlikely).
