| Computer Room Furniture I am going to be working from home much much more here soon. I am looking to replace all of the furniture in my home office. Currently, in respects of desks, I have just 2 brown plain fold-up tables. Lame and boring. I'm looking to get rid of them and instead, replace with metal/glass furniture. I know this isn't all that expensive. Here is the deal: I have 6 computers, and 7 LCD monitors (one PC has 2 monitors). I need a layout as such so that I can have 2 of the computers (with 2 monitors) on small rolling desks. I'm not opposed to having the flat-panels being under the glass desk space to save room, but on top will be ok as well. Both PCs will have their own dedicated mouse and keyboard. As I roll them, the only thing that should be on the ground are the power cables (These have wireless NICs). Something like this but glass instead of normal desk tops, and no hutch needed. The other four PCs will be going on glass desks. I'm looking for a modern look that wont break the bank, yet good quality. No, I didn't say "cheap and good", I just said something that wont break the bank. Going to put two PCs per desk. Finally, the issue - all of this needs to go into a 10x10 room. Can someone point me to a place - preferably one - that I can purchase all of this furniture, and have it all be uniform? I've been looking around, and really don't find much, though I am not very good at computer furniture shopping. Thanks! |

+16 Internets | Glass is going to be a pain in the butt to clean (as you need to do both top and bottom). Have you looked at IKEA? I got the parts to our desk separately but they're all from the same collection so I could piece them together to make a big work station. It's 12' long and at each end it has a corner style unit. They have glass work stations at IKEA, but I don't know the name of them. I believe the collection I got was Galant. If you're looking for stuff that matches but different things (as you want a work station but also two? of them to be mobile), you should check it out. The prices are fair and unless you're buying a dresser, most of their stuff is pretty durable. I know the desk I have is durable, it doesn't 'dip' down at all and currently holds a 40something inch plasma tv, and three 24-27 inch monitors. It's been 3 years or so and I still haven't stained it or scratched it! The desk also has filing cabinets that fit nicely underneath it and match. The filing cabinet I have is a piece of shit and falls apart but I forgot to use that wood glue, so it's my fault. ![]() The IKEA website is a pain in the ass to navigate, but it's worth checking out at the least. |

+4 Internets | I've been trying to find some computer room furniture as well. I was hoping to find a desk taht would seat 2 people, so that I could be working at the same time as my gf without us intruding on each other's space. Right now she just uses the wireless from the living room because I have a small desk. Very hard to find something like this without going into cubicle furniture. |

+21 Internets | USM - Modular Furniture - got my desk there (KITOS set) and looking to expand it further. I don't know what breaking the bank is for you, my desk was rather expensive. But they have different price ranges. It's modular furniture, so you can have different components attached to set the shape/size of the desk and to also add tablets and stuff. I have a tablet on the desk for my LCD monitors, so they're a little elevated, a couple inches further away and don't take up room on the desk. edit: somewhat like that, except the tablet is lower. ![]() Last edited by Soriak : 02-05-2008 at 06:23 PM. |

Here's a picture of what I built a few years ago. It's ugly, sturdy and cheap, just like me. This pic can go in your folder of me next to the nudes. The center desk is one I bought when I was 15, the two side ones I built. I was thinking about putting some finishing enamel stuff on them but it's WAY too expensive. I built those two shelf thingies for about $20 total. I am, however, thinking about plating them in steel sheeting like my bumper (except not a shit job) but they'd just get heavier with no real gain in quality. (The cauldron on the top left is filled with water and is the only way I can keep hydrated. I drink it several times over. It looks messy but all that food stuff is what I ate for dinner). | And why do you need the monitors/keyboards on all the time? KVM switches are fairly cheap, especially compared to two desks and four extra monitors.
