Yoggie Pico.

Friend just got this neat little toy and I thought I would post here and ask if this thing actually works or is a total piece of garbage. Would this replace all the firewall, anti-virus, and anti-spyware programs that need to be loaded on a computer to keep your shit safe?

I'm unsure if this does anything that cannot already be done with (free) software.

The site says

Quote:
Block all Internet threats outside, before they reach your PC
Hide your PC from Internet Hackers
Boost your PC’s performance
Dual Flash memory mechanism constitutes an “Untouchable Operating System” barrier for complete physical isolation of your PC from threats
Protection from known as well as unknown attacks
Plug and Forget easy installation and operation with no special technical knowledge required
Security software updates accumulate on the Yoggie’s external mini-server, instead of draining your PC’s resources
Most of the "features" are really of dubious value. The first 3 could be said about any firewall (that has filtering built in). It "Hides" your PC with via NAT, "boosts your performance" because you arent running AV software on y our actual machine, and "Blocks" threats by closing non-essential ports.

The site also mentions it's Linux-based with 13 applications on it. Just about all the features provided by their "13 applications" can pretty much be accounted for by running: Shorewall, DansGuardian, Squid, ClamAV, OpenVPN, and probably some light, locally running webserver to access/configure everything. While that sort of setup would protect your whole network if installed on a machine acting as the gateway, it can also be a bitch to set all of it up.

They list the Firewall Pico for $109, which really isn't that bad for a mobile solution (if it really does everything that it lists well). I'd also be interested in hearing from someone who's experienced with the above applications and seeing how it compares.
