Looking for some feedback on E63 AMG

OK in my quest to find a car I like, I ordered a BMW 550i. However, I found out Mercedes Benz is running a special on their E63 AMGs (507 HP slushbox cars, very fast). I kind of feel like a dick to order a car and then change my mind, but I guess that's what deposits are for. Anyways, I did a bunch of research on the E63 and next week I go for a test drive, but I was wondering if anyone here has any actual experience. Lots of message boards all you get is mouthbreathing fans that give you bogus reviews.

Oh and if anyone was wondering, the 550i arrives in March, so I got a bit of time to spin my wheels(pun, har.)

I would take the Benz on looks alone vs the BMW. Sorry, I can't help beyond that. Bit beyond my budget.

Ya I love the looks, guess it will just depend on the test drive. I read a few reviews that said they don't like that it doesn't blip the throttle on downshifts. I'm not sure how annoying that would be...

Are you comfortable with dropping 80g's on a car?

It's a lease, so in 2 years I give it back. However if I was interested in buying, ya I don't have a problem doing that.

How much would a car like that cost to lease? Around 1k a month?

Does the Merc come with a true manual or electronic manual? If not, then no fucking sale.

But I hate Mercs, so don't look here for impartial opinions.

Automatic transmission gayness confirmed. At least it's a 7 speed. May I suggest also purchasing Blue Blockers and making sure you're taking calcium supplements?

I drive in Seattle and while I like manuals when I want to have fun, they suck fat cock in traffic. So fuck that. The lease is 1.2k a month if you were wondering.

P.S. I guess that makes Ferraris gay eh? The merc has manual shifts that are as fast as a ferrari shifts via paddles. Not to mention I have no clue why I am defending my choice, like I'm gonna be wondering what Eomer thinks of me when Im blowing M3/M5/Carrera/Vettes off the line.

Edmunds has it at 0-60 in 4.3 with an electronically goverened speed of 155. (a chrysler crossfire does that) It's slower than a zo6 vette and an m5, and it looks like every other mercedes out there. After asking some friends and reading a few articles, nobody seems to like the gearbox or the transmission, it feels "odd"

Not to mention, this summer... for about 20,000 dollars less

lol chill out, I'm not making fun of you. I'm making fun of Mercs. I just think it's comical that people like that brand of car, when everything they do is done better and for less money by other manufacturers. The unavailability of true manual transmissions in their cars for decades is all the demonstration you need to know that Mercs are primarily cars sold to people with more money than taste. And the blue blockers comment was because typically Mercs are German Cadillacs: idealized by fat old white men. And rappers!

Whatever though, it's a nice car. I honestly doubt you'll be taking any M5's and/or Z06's off the line, though. Go for it if you like it. If you like the cachet of owning a nice car, Mercedes are a great way to go because most people don't know fuck all about cars anyway, and will think yours is awesome. Mercedes are fantastic at conspicuous consumption!

And before you get all offended and cranky, I'm about 20 feet from a garage with about half a million dollars in cars, bikes, and other toys in it. So no, I'm not jealous or trying to make myself feel better.

You live next to an auto-repair shop, huh? Must be kind of noisy.

Amen. Hopefully I'll be rolling in a GT-R by the end of the year.

Good luck on getting a GT-R, all the dealers in the area quoted me 100k up front cash no you don't get to test drive it.

Wrong, M5 does 0-60 in 4.5, Crossfire in 4.8(SRT version) and the Z06 is faster, but I don't care for chevies. The Merc is conservatively listed at 4.3 btw, with people reporting 4.0 and it could be faster, but the limits of adhesion apply. (Also you can get the performance package for larger tires and it moves the governor limit to 186 or so.)
