This year, the Ontario government spent $37.9billion on the health care system, or $3100 for each of the province's 12 million residents. That $3100 is very close to the difference in annual income tax rates between Ontario and New York State that I researched.

They don't pay for any of it. They enjoy the most advanced healthcare with the most dedicated doctors in places like Chicago's John Stroger Hospital and ALL FOR FREE. Lasik Eye Surgery? Free. Diabetes treatment? Free. Liposuction (happens a lot since the poor in the US suffer a disproportionate representation of the obesity problem) and bypass surgery? Free.

You and me, we have to pay, because THAT'S what a socialized system does, it makes productive members of society pay for the unwise life choices of the unwisest members of an unwise society. I linked John Stroger Hospital of Cook County in that post you quoted. That's formerly Cook County Hospital, where the show ER was supposed to be based on. It's the public general hospital and remains one of the largest trauma and triage centers in the whole world. It's a world-class facility (I managed the subcontract for JHS under Walsh) and has everything from free dentistry all the way to neurology. Gastric Bypass, Lasik and all Opthalmology is available at the facility and is FREE for low-income patients. Always has been and always will be.

The State of Illinois runs about hundred such facilities with 3 major facilities in Chicago alone (Cook County, Provident and Oak Forest Hospital).... ALL are level-1 trauma centers providing FREE medical care for low-income patients.

All the states run similar facilities but the VA remains the largest free healthcare system in the world and THAT isn't restricted for poor patients only. The VA also gives out free surgeries like Lasik eye surgery and there has even been an issue with the airforce wanting to cut down on lasik because of a shortage of support officers when candidates all became eligible to be aviators.

It's one of the largest hospitals in Chicago and one of the largest trauma centers in the world, why don't you look a little fucking harder because EVERYONE know's Cook County is fucking free for poor patients. It's the public general hospital. Want a good caveat you can play make angry mouth noises with? Guess you didn't watch ER then huh, but the place is a MESS... prisoners are brought there for their treatment (which, surprise, is also free). The doctors are overworked and the nurses, security and service workers are in the most corrupt and bloated union in the city (senior nurses are paid better than junior physicians for example) and are thus slow and often unresponsive.

But hey, it's still free for the poor. Todd Stroger (the son of the man for whom the Hospital is named after) even raised sales taxes in Chicago to be the highest in the country to pay for the Hospital's exhorbitant costs.

The point is that any assumption that operates on the abandonment of American poor is a ridiculous exaggeration at best and blatant lie at worst. The HEALTHCARE system isn't even the biggest dole out here... HOUSING is worse. You REALLY believe the propaganda that portrays the poor people being thrown out on the streets in America? How does it even make sense that ANY politician could survive letting that happen, but you folks just rolled with it and swallowed it as fact.

The truth is that American cities have always maintained some of the largest low-income housing systems in the world. But now, it's gotten sooo much worse in cities like Chicago and we've moved from free housing for the poor to outright theft by real-estate developers who are now USING the poor. Those ghettoes you used to see on TV in places like chicago are being torn down, places like Cabrini Green are being torn down at the suggestion of the billionaire multinationals who are stapled to the mayor's ear.

What do they do with the poor people? Do they throw them out in the streets? Nope, they get to move into expensive condoes and luxury apartments paid for by taxpayer subsidies!!! It's the equivalent of a voucher program for low income housing but instead the subsidy program is allotted to the mayor's buddies first. And does the government pay LESS than a middle-class tenant would to save the taxpayer's money? Hahaha. And guess what that does to rent prices for that middle-class single mom whose lease is up next month?
