Don't you already get tons of college grants for being poor? I started college when I was 20 and I couldn't get any help whatsoever because my father made more than 100k. Doesn't matter that he wasn't paying for any of it, but I guess just because he 'could have', I had to pay my own way.

Your parents were then claiming you as a dependent. If your parents were claiming you as a dependent but not helping you out with school at 20 then thats pretty awful. Their income is then used for evaluating your financial need. (If youre talking about need based assistance). If they werent going to help you they should have at least given you the option to help yourself.

(You can be claimed as a dependent up til 19 i believe).

They have that too. If you write your essay about how poor you are and how you still graduated highschool with a 4.0 you're almost guaranteed. Sad stories get you into college more than anything else.

Actually there is some regulations between the time between not being a dependant and being a dependant where they won't help you financially. If you were still living at home etc that might fuck shit up for you.

And 25 is usually the time your car insurance goes down in cost, and you can rent a car (as a male) in some states.
