Monitored Wi-Fi coming to a Public Place Near you!

TruthNews.us » Blog Archive » House Votes for Big Brother Public Wi-Fi Law

Disregarding the source and it's rhetoric for a moment - this bill calls for companies to do what ISP's already do - monitor for illegal activity.

Why are we passing this law again? I can tell you my guess...

If we just disregard the source as rhetoric... why bother even discussing it? The Bill is pretty retarded and is mostly toothless anyway; just requires some proprietor to call a newly-funded multi-state "tipline" and raises funding for a broad set of vaguely-related services in various strategic states. IE: It's just more fucking pork. Whereas a real law protecting young (or adult) citizens from RAMPANT online solicitation--be it sexual or just more damned spam---would actually be useful.

Now you could bitch about the porky funding sections all day and that would be worthwhile.

The definition of which images qualify as illegal is expansive. It includes obvious child pornography, meaning photographs and videos of children being molested. But it also includes photographs of fully clothed minors in overly "lascivious" poses, and certain obscene visual depictions including a "drawing, cartoon, sculpture, or painting." (Yes, that covers the subset of anime called hentai).
