| I'm in your all going down! Edit: I'm not going to do this but i've always wondered. Most of these games have 20 minute delays so if i just sat at a real time station and ran a screen for the largest movers over the last 20mins if I could trade 20 mins ahead. Every time i see these games and some dude is up 13k % i'm thinking that's what he did. Or he got really lucky. Edit 2: My portfolio is set until the end of the game. I'm way leveraged into gold so it wont be moving unless i take some massive losses on fed actions. Last edited by prescient63 : 12-04-2007 at 12:08 AM. |

| I suggest investopedia.com if you want a fair game. Your trades will take 20 minutes to execute to protect against exploiting with real time quotes as mentioned above, but its the only fair way as nobody is going to pay for real time quotes on a fake game. That pretty much eliminates day trading by the way, but thats probably better for most of you I suspect. |

| A lot of virtual portfolio sites only fill your orders with a portion of the securities average daily volume. This means that even though there is a 20 minute delay, it takes awhile for your order to be filled anyway so this negates knowing the would be advantage of knowing the realtime price. Also most internet brokers offer quotes that are almost realtime so it isn't that difficult to get such information if you really wanted it. |

| 1 hour in and I'm up 5 points... GO ME! Edit: I was totally right about my trading theory. I bought more RIC than there was volume today. About double the volume actually. Microcaps FTW! Last edited by prescient63 : 12-04-2007 at 07:36 AM. |

| How long does it take for a trade/order to go through? I made like 100 trades and I don't see it taking effect.

| There is a 20 minute delay on trades. Also, in previous games people have attempted to work the system with the delay but it does not seem to work as the actual purchase time is somewhat random (and therefore the market price). From a different board: "OK, I will also come clean. I tried to game the wacky VSE interface, using my real time ticker vs. their delayed figures to recognize a nice gap in Chipotle, which I promtly shorted the hell out of, with a cover buy at the lower current and accurate price. The VSE seems to execute trades whenever it damn well pleases though, and I got my virtual day trading ass handed to me when it did so at a much higher price. Cheaters never prosper, evidently I'll behave from now on." Prescient is in the lead with his 32,000 shares of Richmont Mines! Netflix is down!! Why would you forsake me like that Hatorade?! ![]() |

| You borrow McDonald's stock then you sell it at 50 dollars. One week later and now it's worth 25 dollars, so you buy it back. You return the stock that you borrowed and keep the 25 dollars/stock you netted yourself. |

| FUCK I ordered $100,000 worth of stuff then cancelled it all thinking it was fubar then traded again and my trades from the first time started coming through now everything is so messed up. Patience is a virtue I guess. PS: Mutual funds are taking forever to come through.
