+13 Internets | Ever click 'no' when Word asks you if you want to save? Yeah, so I just didn't save all 8 pages of this fucking paper because I clicked no when I closed office. Am I really as fucked as I think I am, or is there any way to recover something like that? I don't even have any earlier versions of it, this was my first write and it never got saved. I googled for a while but all I could find it how to recover corrupt files and that I should probably turn auto recovery on. There any way at all that this was stored in a temp folder someplace that I don't know about?

| I have no idea I suck with computers. That really sucks man and I know you are pissed right now but I suggest instead of waiting for an answer, you suck it up and start retyping the paper right now while it is still fresh in your head. If you wait awhile you will forget stuff. Once you get rolling you will be surprised how much you remember and you can pretty much retype everything. I had a few power outages way back in the day (late 1980's) when Apple 2E's were in existance and saving was a bitch, basically I lost everything in the past, so I speak with experience. Also, I suggest clicking the save button after every paragraph. Saving these days is a joke (takes 1 second), you should do it every paragraph. Make it a habit. +20 Internets | This happens to everyone once. Then you learn to hit save anytime you stop to think, take a break, go to the bathroom, or just realize its been awhile (at least 10 minutes) since the last save. GG. |

But seriously, let this be a lesson: save every 5 seconds. Seriously. Whenever I'm working on a length project I get in the habit of clicking on Ctrl-S after almost every sentence. It's overkill, but at least I know this won't happen to me. | |

| I find that hard to believe. This may be too late, but Word by default should have auto recover turned on. Check under Tools > Options > File Locations Tab and see where it saves the AutoRecover files. Check that directory to see if there are any backup files for your document. It's possible that Word deletes backup files after you save and exit, but maybe the files are still on the disc. I know in DOS you used to be able to recover deleted files using super-sekrit applications (like Norton). I haven't had to use any such things in years, since auto recover is usually enough, but they may still exist.

| Damn man that sucks but yeah it happens to everyone at one point or another. First time it happened to me I just started over and it actually turned out better than before, but you'll be surprised just how much of it comes back to you off memory if you can get over the initial shock and just get back to writing again. If you're under some deadline or something and its a general subject (english, history, etc.) I might have something I can sling you, just shoot me a pm... give it a second go though man. Good luck! |
