Bank Of America

We recently have determined that different computers have logged onto your Online Banking account, and multiple password failures were present before the logons. We now need you to re-confirm your account information to us.

If this is not completed by September 16, 2007, we will be forced to suspend your account indefinitely, as it may have been used for fraudulent purposes. We thank you for your cooperation in this manner.

To confirm your Online Banking records click on the following link:

I get one just like that every day. It's too bad I don't actually have a Bank of America account.

Bleh, all the ones I have are poorly formated and come out as one word. Amatuers.

I clicked one.. there is a PayPal version as well. They just basically copy the login page and hope people input their information.. but instead of logging in you give away your name/pw.

Some of them are pretty throrough and all the FAQ and Help links go to the proper page.

I got the bank of america one today. It might be fun to fill in their form claiming you are president of a nigerian bank and wish to transfer all funds to your bank of america account.

I did a college writing project composed of prose entirely harvested from spam emails, I wish I could find it, that's been like 2 hard drives ago though. Sometimes the text is white and you have to highlight. Sometimes it's obviously copied from a message board, sometimes it's excerpts from books. It doesn't seem to happen quite as much recently.

Here's some samples from my spam box. Not very good stuff, if you look you can find some gems though:

I got the BofA one, but I didn't click it as they had America spelled Amarica. There's one for PayPal that also says there's an open dispute on your account, when you mouseover the link it shows some other website, though, so it's easy to know it's a scam.

Whats sad is a lot of this spam is being sent by this massive "storm" network. Basically some hackers have managed to hijaack over 2 million PCs around the world with trojans/worms and have a massive PC network at their disposal. Its more powerful than any supercomputer in the world.

Over 40% of the internet traffic in the US is now spam mail. Just blows away P2P, funny how you don't hear ISPs bitch much about it.

What'll be sad/cool/ironic/? is if some hackers manage to get enough distributed PCs infected and somehow bootstrap an AI. Totally scifi and unlikely, but a cool idea

gmail does an amazing job btw of filtering spam, whereas yahoo mail seems to totally suck balls at it.

Yeah, very very rarely do I get spam in the inbox on my Gmail account. Funny enough, the Ebay scam I just mentioned did get past their filter.
