X-Fi XtremeGamer Card Issue I recently built a new rig and the sound card has been a huge pain in my ass since I got it running. At first it had no sound whatsoever, I fiddled around in the console with the volume controls and such, rebooted, but no sound from my 5.1 setup. I tried downloading drivers, reseating the card, still nothing. Then, for some reason that escapes me, the sound was working after rebooting the system. Hooray! Now, however, there is no sound yet again. I've tried reseating, uninstalling/reinstalling/updating drivers, disabling the on-board sound, and still I get nothing. Anyone have any idea what is wrong/how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

It seems it's working, however with absolutely everything cranked it's inaudible without my ear directly against the speakers. Furthermore, my speakers' volume controller doesn't have any effect, and I have no idea why.

| Has balls of steel. | I had the same exact problem. I reinstalled the drivers after fully deleting them with drivercleaner etc, used different pci slots and such.. still, sometimes sound would work and other times it didnt. I updated the bios on my ASUS P5W DH DELUXE and everything has been working ever since.. /shrug. BTW I use the X-Fi XtremeGamer. Last edited by Prisonmsagro : 05-07-2007 at 05:33 PM. |

So a short while after I made this thread I got my sound working. I had some setting or other that was causing the system to not run sound through the sound card. Now, however, I am having a similar problem and can't remember what the hell I did to fix it. A few weeks ago I plugged in a USB headset which, as far as I can tell, is the culprit for why I'm suffering from the exact same issue as above. It's not the sound card (the onboard sound does the same thing), and everything works just dandy with any kind of headphones. It's simply the speakers that are incredibly quiet and only get a teensy bit louder if I crank everything on the computer up. Volume settings for the actual speaker system don't do squat. I've already asked in some tech support forums what i might be missing or have screwed up, but no one seems to know. If anyone can figure out what is wrong I will be eternally grateful. Hell, I'll throw in $50 too; I'm going out of my mind with this crap.

Did you disable any onboard sound? Are you using PCI IRQ sharing? I think the X-FI does this by default and it causes problems. I have one of these and I HATE it. It has an inherent problem with nForce chipset boards and Creative tells us to talk to nVidia to fix it. I was [] close to buying a new sound card a couple of days ago and letting my X-FI become a chew toy for my dog.

Nope, XP and 2GB of RAM. EDIT: Also, just checked the IRQ. The soundcard isn't sharing with any other devices (though the 3D card and some controllers are). I read something about disabling ACPI during the Windows installation, but I'd like to avoid having to reinstall if at all possible. EDIT2: Turns out it's the subwoofer. *sigh* Last edited by Cadrid : 09-13-2007 at 04:40 PM.
