| can't connect to network Can't connect to my home network. Was browsing the internet fine this morning, then all of a sudden, I lost connection. Thought my isp went down, but checked the other computers on the network, and they can connect to the internet fine. Any clue as to what happened? Only conclusion I've come down to is that my network adapter died on me. But I have no idea how to tell. Last edited by dumdee777 : 09-02-2007 at 03:31 PM. |

+1 Internets | Holy crap include some details if you're going to ask such a mundane question. If it says MEDIA DISCONNECTED for your connection status then there is a problem with the port on the router, the card on your computer, or the cord that connects them. IF IT DOES NOT THEN start -> run -> cmd ping google.com ping 72.14.207.99 ipconfig and paste results here. |

| Sorry, not familiar with this stuff. Here's the results. ping google.com: Ping request could not find google.com. Please check the name and try again. ping 72.14.207.99: Destination host unreachable. Destination host unreachable. Destination host unreachable. Destination host unreachable. | If this is WinXP or Vista... Disable your software firewall if you have one and try to ipconfig /renew. If it says dhcp timeout then type netsh i i r r and hit enter, it doesn't have an output. Reboot the comp and run ipconfig again, if the ip is still 169 then you may want to reinstall your adapter. Also if you don't care, try resetting your router even if other comps are working. If you don't get a dhcp timeout error when you try to renew, then post the error you get. |

| Ok, I tried ipconfig /renew, and it says there is no adapter that can run that operation or something. Earlier, I checked my network adapter under hardware devices, and it said it was working properly. After disabling it, it says no drivers installed for it. And it won't let me enable it again. Should I reinstall the drivers? |

| Not sure what to do. Uninstalling the drivers, makes it freeze my computer. I am using a NVIDIA Nforce3 board. So, is it just my NIC that is dead? If so, are there any cheap alternatives to replace it like a USB adapter? |

| Well, just bought a new pci adapter card. But still no luck in fixing the problem. I put it in my computer, installed the drivers, but it doesn't seem to notice the new hardware because the old one is still installed. I tried disabling or uninstalling the drivers of the dead NIC, but it keeps restarting my computer automatically. |

| IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 169.254.107.235 that means your card wasn't getting an IP address from the DHCP server (probably your router) It doesn't always mean the card is bad. There is spyware crap that will cause that symptom. Spybot will often fix it. I'd run that just in case you have something bad on your system before it screws up your new card. |
