| Greetings, I have been an appreciator of cars for many years now and after driving my Jetta (1.8T 2001) for 3 years I have come to the conclusion that I will be driving it to the ground and then some. My friend has a GPS device that suction-cups to his windshield, it has helped us in many occasions and is relativly cheap. I also use my Ipod (20 gig HD) to play all my music through an FM station via a cig adaptor from wal-mart (25$) My question ( since I cannot find much luck on search engines) is.... Are there interfaces out there that can......... 1. Be custom installed into my dashboard and feed off the cars electricity. Possibly flip down to reduce obstruction of view. 2. Small touch screen monitor that contains a small computer in or close to it. 2a. Contain a hard drive to place my lot of music onto. 3. Have a subscription to a GPS service. 4. Be interfaced with my CD changer and my current stock deck. (Play music off hard drive.) 5. Possibly have internet via satalite , outrageous monthly charges are expected. 6. Radar detector possibilities and combinations? Many thanks, This car is stock (except clear turning signal covers) and is very fast with amazing mileage. PS. Posts from Jetta enthusiasts welcomed. |

| mp3car.com | your source for mobile computing solutions Read these forums. It'll cost you at least $1000, easily $2000, and it will take you a month of solid work on your car. I know, I did it. |

+37 Internets | I've always thought it's fucking ridiculous that in this day and age you can't walk into a car audio store and buy basically a small PC for your computer that could hold hundreds of GB of music and video, complete with wireless networking so you can move files onto it from your home network, etc etc. Instead you've got to do some sort of custom patchwork solution that may or may not work all the time. |

As to the original poster, if you can dream it - it can be done in car audio(and forget about keeping your stock deck). It'll end up costing you an arm and a leg, but it can be done. Been seeing some crazy stuff lately - 30" motorized LCD screens in trunk? Check. Screens in the side view mirrors? Check. Integrated screen with rear-view camera in rear view? Check. LCD Rims that let you display images/words (my personal WTF favorite)? Check. The only thing that'll hold you back is how much are you willing to spend, and how long can you live without your car? | |
