Greece is on fire, why is no one talking about it?

Like half the country is burning. Is anyone else interested? This is a horrible tragedy -- it's barely on the news anywhere.

I thought it was just some villages around Athens? Either way, apparently it was arsonists who did it because of the upcoming elections.

They fear that Global Warming caused it, that's why it's been downplayed.

It's destroying ancient history. Some 60 people or more are dead.

Never heard of it. How bad is it? got some good links?

Frankly, unless it's Americans dying of TERROR, I can't say I care. Were any Americans hurt? Or, were any American Fast Food Chains hurt?

(I'm trying to point out that americans are dipshits, I don't really feel that way).

Terrible tragedy.. but the only thing getting airtime seems to be if the ancient sites will survive, oh and the arson stories as well.

But I read one absolutely terrible thing... supposedly they found a mother hugging her 4 children and all 5 burned to death in that pose. God that is terrible.

That's pretty crappy!

Often stuff gets skipped out in the news here for the same reason it's not in the news there. After Hurrican katrina the world thought it smashed neworleans and didn't realize that it also effected dozens of other cities in the area. Despite being the birthplace of awesome (sparta), greece is about as significant to the USA as Washington Parish Louisiana is to greece.

Half a country is on fire and only 60 people are dead? Is Greece that underpopulated now?

I'd rather talk about NKorea being flooded killing six HUNDRED people and affecting 400,000 residents.

Villages are burning. If the whole country blew up but no one died, would it still not be a big deal?

It's more or less what Tuco said.

But because North Korea is one of the "axis of evil" countries good ol W talked about, there lives don't mean shit. So don't plan on hearing much about the hundreds killed in other countries, just the countries the US has good relations with.
