| In a perfect world i'd use a regular Macbook or even an Air for note taking, the MBP is a bit luggable for that kind of use. I use mine as a desktop replacement - great screen, great keyboard, powerful enough for games in XP mode and a great developers machine in OSX. |

| If they have a mobile 8800gt/gtx, then that would be faster than a 7950gtx, but any 8600 and below would be quite a bit slower.

| can someone explain to me the reasons for macbooks? getting laptop soon there is absolutely no software i need that is mac only. everything i run and will run is windows based. i don't need a dualboot of two os's when i only need one os, namely windows. why bother with a macbook then? it's extra work for nothing, or for just the white case? |

| Support and a pretty presentation. If you have no interest in OSX or its applications, I would suggest getting a different brand.

| How are Gateway and Toshiba for Laptops? Was looking at a Gateway that had the 8800 GTX mobile version in it and was also taking a look at a Toshiba that had a 8600 SLi set up, but that was about 5-600 more than the Gateway. |

| I got a Mystery coupon from Dell today. It's good on most (excludes ATG, XFR, XPS, XT and Dimension) laptops and desktops 699 or higher and it reduces the price by 30%. It says it expires 4/29, but I got it today and it's advertised as a 2-day sale, so probably expires tomorrow night. On the off chance anyone was already eying a Dell, shoot me a PM and I can hook you up. |

Edit: And if I need support I can walk into any Apple store and get great support, no queuing to talk to India. Last edited by Slide : 04-30-2008 at 12:50 PM. | |

| Turns out as a Digital Media student I get around a 10% discount + the normal educational discount on Macbook Pros. Around $1,600 instead of $2,000. Not bad at all. Plus several hundred dollars off of Final Cut Pro. |

| This. If you get the discount and they are useful get Aperture and Logic too. Mostly Logic. I dont do the creative shit, but having worked in an media agency Final Cut and Logic got extensive use along with Creative Suite. Aperture less so. Edit: tbh i'd just pirate them as a student, you're learning skills at using this software and when you graduate and get a job someone's going to buy a license for you. I bet if you just sent a mail to them saying you're studying X can I have a free copy + pdf manuals you'd get it. Last edited by Slide : 05-01-2008 at 12:51 PM. |

| Just buy Apples from the refurb store. I've bought a MacBook and a few ipods that way and it saves you as much as you can on a Apple product. There is almost always current generation laptops on the refurb store. |
