+2 Internets | "The basic dispute surrounds the 1915 massacres..." Why is this even on the table? This is almost 100 years ago. Let's table a resolution to say that Ghengis Khan was a bad man. IBTR? (based on the thread title alone) |

| Usually when I see a dak post i'm prepared for some bullshit, but he has a half valid point. What bothers me more is that there is actual legislation being discussed to categorize a 92 year old event. Why is this even being discussed or considered right now? Legislation won't change the facts of what happened or bring those people back to life. The entire thing is stupid, from congress considering it to the Turk's reaction to bush and co. being put in the fucking weird position of having to try and stop this legislation to try and maintain peace inside an allied nation. It's one fucked up string of events from 1915 to 2007 for sure.

+2 Internets | Regardless of your position on Bush (good, bad, evil, awesome, whatever), I cannot think of any reason this is being discussed than to put him in a no-win position. Hate Bush all you want, but at least recognize that he hold the position of President of the United States and don't damage the entire country because of an intense hatred for him. In short, this bill is stupid. |

| Proud Communist | It's a smart ploy by the non-war politicians. If it passes, they did good by helping the Armenians, AND they removed key access to the air base in Turkey. Without it, we stand a better chance of being unable to sustain the War in Iraq, etc etc etc. I say go for it. |

+2 Internets | Wasn't Bush's veto record embedded in some other thread that had little to do with politics, but morphed into such? Or am I thinking of another forum. ![]() This is Bush's 4th Veto. (Clinton had 37) List of United States presidential vetoes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

| what a pointless thing for congress to do... hey guys lets piss off like the one country the middle east that isnt a dictatorship about something that happened a hundred years ago and was done by an empire that doesnt even exist anymore. For all their talk about persueing diplomatic means to solve foreign problems and making the middle east like us again this type of thing just proves to me that the democrats are shitbags who will say/do anything to get power. |

This genocide claimed around a million people and the perpetrators of it, our current allies are still allowed to make the claim of "nuh uh" to the world community. We love to say "we shall never forget" but in reality we don't give a flying fuck. Now is the perfect time to bring this up, we are in bed with our ideological enemy. Organized mass murders in the industrial age. The majority of our military power in the region has the taint of this affair on it, all because you live stateside and don't give a shit doesn't mean the people in the surrounding regions who we need to deal with on a daily basis to resolve problems have forgotten.

| Well Dak, go ask a brother if he will ever forget when his people were in chains. he will probably say "yo i want my 40 acres and a mule cracka, or i bust a cap in yo ass!" seriously we have a plenty good memory of bad things that happen in the US but its probably a big vague to joe sixpack as to what might have happened in turkey in the 1800s |
