Best Place for Complete PC?

I am entering my last year of college and I'm looking to grab a new pc that will be mostly for internet/school stuff but also for some casual gaming. I don't need to be able to run bleeding edge graphics or anything and I would prefer to avoid building my own. My current computer was built for me by a friend and I have had nothing but problems with it, so I'm just looking to get a new one from Dell or whatever. I was just wondering if there were any smaller companies i should check out before buying one or if the July price drops for hardware would affect my choices at all.

Basically I just need a shitty new comp between $500-$800 that I can rely on and have a little fun with.

Alls I can really think of are those Dell/HP ones that you get at the store (Comp USA, Best Buy, etc). That price range might get you an OKAY PC -- just don't expect to play any new games on it. :|

Dell with coupon/gotapex.com deals is pretty much as cheap as it gets for pre-built.

I think you should buy a laptop, but I'm sure everyone will disagree.

a laptop probably would be more practical for me, although i have an irrational aversion towards them. i could get this setup in a laptop for about $650, my main concern is the video card. is there anything else terrible about it that im missing? im a little worried that vista is just going to eat all of my resources.

I agree with Famm. I'm retiring my desktop and buying the new Macbook pro.

Vista won't eat up your resources, but that HyperMemory graphics card will. If you intend to play any games on it, you will want at least a Go7900GS.

Also, don't let crazy Mac freaks steer you wrong.

NCIX.com - Canada's Premier Computer Store - Great Technology, Service and Selection.

It's Canadian but that shouldn't matter,if anything you'll get more for your money due to exchange.

They have great pre-builts and then you can customize them from that point on.
