+30 Internets | GOOD backup/sync software for XP? I currently use a program called Second Copy ( ..:: Second Copy ::.. Secure your data with automatic backups ) to always keep my main computer sync'd with my external drives. Right now it does about 7 gigs. One external drive is "immoble", it just sits on my desk and backs up every night at 2am. It actually "syncs", in the fact that whichever file is newer, that is what gets syncs. So if the computer has all the newer files, they go to hard drive. But if I take the hard drive home and work on it, the sync will then update the computer with the newer files. I also use a smaller WD Passport drive that I take home every night, in case I need my work files at home. Same deal here, it sync the files before I go home, and then if I work on them overnight, when I come back, I sync it again and my desktop is now updated with whatever I did at home. I know that's probably way to much explanation, I could have just said "sync". Anyways, is there any other business-class software that someone knows of? Second Copy is decent, it was only like 29 dollars, but it's sometimes sorta slow syncing 6 gigs, it uses a text file to compare all the files and their modified date/time. It's been fine doing this for the last 3 years about, but I'm wondering if there's something more. Thanks |

| I use GoodSync to mirror my collection of MP3s (~150GB). It's fast, sits in the background to do incremental changes as soon as they happen, has options for two-way syncing, etc. It does use files to maintain states, but they aren't text/xml/html (which is what makes the slow programs slow). It's only $19.95 for the pro version too (and free if you have less than 3 jobs or 100 files). Last edited by Vorph : 06-14-2007 at 09:18 AM. |
