I've been to hundreds of rallies in my lifetime, Ron Paul's definitely have far more energy then your typical Republican rally. Democrats are hit or miss, not even from candidate to candidate but rally to rally for the same people.

Ron Paul rallies actually remind me of Perot rallies to a degree.

Maybe not, but what good is it to us when we buy our foreign manufactured goods with a currency that is failing?

Doesn't that translate to higher prices? Doesn't that mean the consumers feel the same thing?

Translates to higher prices of imported goods... foreign manufacturers selling in the US will eventually be forced to raise their dollar prices - which in turn makes domestic goods more attractive.

Stuff manufactured in China by US companies likely won't get much more expensive: the manufacturing is cheap and the high cost stuff (marketing, design) is a cost in dollars.

So you think that companies that rely on foreign manufacturers will eat the profit loss and keep the price tag low?

Chaos sees what I'm getting at here. Rarely in the history of 'Making Profit' does one voluntarily... make less of it. If it costs them more money to get it here, you can bet your ass it's going to cost us more money once it's here. No ifs ands or buts about it.

So, in the unlikely event that they actually keep prices the same, a weak currency means the exact same thing as inflation to your average consumer - it means things cost more. Whether your dollar is worth the same and you just need more of it, or whether it's worth less and you still need more of it - it means we're fucked.

So you're gonna KEEP buying their goods when the quality remains the same, your wages remain the same and their prices keep going up? Is that the depth of the lessons you've eked out of the "history of Making Profit"? Is that really what they teach young commies now? Not like they could maybe oh I dunno find a cheaper supplier? Lobby a different senator? But no! "ooh I know, we'll just raise our prices and the consumers MUST pay exactly what we want mwahhaha".

Um, no.

It entirely depends on the product and the market situation. You didn't see a price increase in the PS3, for example - even though Sony reports its profits in Yen and is losing (even more) from a weak dollar. On the other hand you also don't see a price drop in Europe, despite the strong Euro - may just end up evening out.

You also forget that these companies are in competition with domestic manufacturers. If they raise their prices, people will simply buy less of their stuff, also leading to lower profits. If they expect the dollar to rally shortly and go back up, it may temporarily even make sense to sell at a loss - just so you don't have to raise the price now and drop it again later, nobody likes that.

Yeah but we're not talking about PS3s here, we're talking basic necessities that people need every day.
