+14 Internets | Anyone else having Passport issues Christ almighty I did expedited passport back in March and I still do not have it. Anyone else having any problems (I take it yes) and any advice? I contacted my rep John Boozeman here in AR and they said they would try and help. I am set for a China trip in less than 2 weeks. Hell I am even going to the Chinese Embassy myself in DC as soon as I get the passport. I set my scheduled time for June 1st. (though I am not leaving til june 10th) Any advice would help. Not worried about the Visa just the damn passport. Never been out of this country minus Mexico and Texas (sorry james) (new orleans is where it is being processed) thanks guys peace p.s. yes I did call and say I needed it pronto for my visa, i did not mention I will go there personally and have it stamped. And no I do not work for IGE.....yet

| I got mine a bit more than a year ago, and they said that everything was all fucked up with passports now because the main office used to be in New Orleans and had to be relocated for obvious reasons. Who knows how long it will take before shit is running smoothly again. They told me that if I really wanted it expedited, I had to pay the expedite fee, go get a next day airmail envelope addressed to the office and put another next day airmail envelope to put inside it addressed to myself. Even with that it took over a month. Or maybe they just think you're a terrorist :P |

+15 Internets | Are you sure they'll issue your travel Visa right away? I inquired about a China visa too a few weeks ago and was told I'd have to expect a month and possibly up to 2 months for it to be issued. I'm not sure if that included the expected wait to get an appointment with the embassy, but this is Switzerland so there's probably not that big a line. Usually a Swiss passport means you get Visas anywhere pretty quickly, but China might be different and it could be faster for you in the US. |

| Man, this is the last fucking thing I needed to read. (But at the same time I'm glad I did) I submitted my application for my passport a few weeks ago, but it's odd. Just the other day I got a response indicating my military birth certificate wasn't good enough and had to send in my real one. That was quick response considering, from what a few of you have said, is all fucked up? The address I sent my birth certificate to was an address somewhere in New Hampshire. I guess that's where they are located now? I got mine rushed as well, so here's crossing my fingers. I leave July 21st... If I dont have it 2 weeks before I leave, I'm going to be calling 20 times a day shitting a storm making everyone's life a living hell.

| passports take a really long time now (infrastructure delays plus travel seasons = lose). not to mention, you can have your identity stolen without your passport ever being physically compromised! Slashdot | RFID Passports Cloned Without Opening the Package |

| The biggest cause of delays is that passports are becoming mandatory at the end of the year if you want to travel to Canada/Mexico/Caribbean. So there's a mad rush for everyone to get them, and it's overloading the passport offices. |

| China visa only take 24 hours if you pay a small fee, a 3 business days without. Apparently Canadians are also having HUGE waits for passports now because it will be mandatory to have one if you fly into the USA soon. Sucks cuz I got mine overnight 5 years ago, and need to renew this year. PS, where ya headed in China, I live in china. |

+25 Internets | Yeah, there's been hundreds of people lined up at 5am outside the passport offices in most Canadian cities because of the new travel restrictions (people are paying homeless people to wait in line for them). You need a passport to get into the US now on a flight, I believe, and next year you'll need it to drive across. Of course, this has been known for several years, but most people decided to wait until oh, November to get their passport when the new regulations were coming in January. |

| You said you called and told them you needed it pronto, but did you contact the National Passport Information Center? 1-877-487-2778 or National Passport Information Center Beyond that. Good luck!
