| Plugged In Like Neo | Nursing school fiasco *Sigh* I'm not posting this in screenshots because I'm a little too emotional right now to handle being ripped apart for it. So last Thursday I took a Dosage Calculation exam - 30 questions. We were required to get a 90% on the test - a maximum of 3 wrong. I got 5 wrong. I didn't get to see that test before doing a retake on Tuesday. On Tuesday night I find out that I got 4 wrong, therefore a fail. My clinical instructor tells me Weds morning that I can't be at clinical because since I failed the test I'm technically kicked out of the nursing program. I left the hospital and went to school to talk with the Director of Nursing. She tells me there is nothing she can do. I got to see my exam, and of course, for one of the questions I COPIED THE ANSWER OVER WRONG from my test packet to my answer sheet. I wrote 35.5ml instead of 35.6ml. Great. So it was a dumb copying error that caused me to fail out of nursing school? She tells me I can petition to the Dean of Students. So I wrote a 3 page letter yesterday to the Dean. Today I find out that my request was DENIED. They claim that simple mistakes like that can be a life or death situation in THE REAL WORLD. Bottom line? I was kicked out of the nursing program for getting an 86% on a test instead of a 90%. I'm really not sure how to tell my parents. They pay for me to go to nursing school and have about $30,000 in student loans for me from nursing. This whole situation is leaving such a bad taste in my mouth for this college, but also nursing programs in general. At this point, I don't even know if I WANT to finish nursing school. I have the option to 'resequence' next semester into the program, but its not guaranteed its only relying on space being available. Problem is that my parents are only going to pay for these college loans if I finish college, I still have three semesters left. If I decide to switch what I want to do, they're not going to pay for these past loans and they're not going to pay for future loans. I'm so upset and confused and I don't know what to do. I wanted to vent to someone...so here it is. |

+19 Internets | Sorry to hear you got the boot. That sucks. That being said, paying for your own loans isn't the end of the world. I paid for all of my college(still paying). Student loans are some of the most lenient payment plans out there. |

+34 Internets | Might check out the Air Force...supposedly they have a fairly badass program to become an RN. Plus, I do believe the military will pay off any school loans. I'm not sure how it works, but it's there.

| Plugged In Like Neo | The thing that pisses me off the most is that I'm an A student who never has problems with test taking. I've gotten an A in every other nursing course so far. I've gotten nothing less than a B+ on any one of our tests. I took the Dosage Calculations math class last semester and a got an A. My test scores are always in the top 10% in our class of 90. I'm a fucking A student and they pull this on me? *sigh* |

| I considered nursing school (Then go into the Navy/Air Force and retire. Have 6 years Army time already, but the Army blows). Then I read about how all nurses, especially on the civilian side, treat each other like shit. Not only that, but nursing school professors are the worst of the bunch. That pretty much ended that idea quickly. Not sure if you have already or not, but check out allnurses.com - The #1 Nursing Community for Nurses They have lots of forums for current nurses as well as nursing students (I've read a bit about students in your situation). Good luck if you decide to try again. |

| There is no internets | Air Force all the way. Im ex-Army, if I had to do it all over again know what I know now, I would have gone Air Force. Much better educational opportunities, and the "quality of life" (an actual term in the military) is MUCH better than any other DoD military branch. Not to mention you can see the world for free basically.

+25 Internets | Sucks you got kicked out, but what you were told was spot on: your little fuck-up could have been the cause of someone's death. You failed the test not once, but twice, so I can't say that I'm surprised you got the boot. |

+34 Internets | That's a load of shit, by the way. Costs 5 bucks a ticket to nearly anywhere, sure, but you're very, very restricted, on top of the fact that you still have to pay for a hotel somewhere (maybe you can get an on base hotel, I guess), still have to burn mucho leave time, and still have to find someone to go with. I guess if you're married it's not half bad, but you're not exactly getting paid like a king in the military -- amirite or WHAT. EDIT: By restricted, I mean there's only so many slots on a C-130 or C-5 or whatever it is you'll be hopping on, they only go to so many places per AFB, so sometimes it can take like a dozen hops to get to where you wanna go, and the flights are constantly rescheduled and cancelled completely. It's basically a crapshoot if you want to get back, and you sure as hell better hope you get back before your leave is up!

| Stinks that you got booted, but to be honest a mistake like that with drugs can be fatal for the patient. Especially when dealing with narcs or radiation a simple mistake can mean life or death. One test shouldn't have gotten you booted IMO but I'm smart enough to know there are 3 sides to every story.

Anyway, my wife went to vet school and people who failed just got pushed back into the previous year's class. The university wasn't going to turn down money (only half kidding)! I am surprised they kicked you outright, especially something as bullshit as a quiz. There really isn't an option to repeat a class/semester/year? What about transferring to another school? I don't mean to bring you down, but student loans aren't considered "good debt" if you don't get the increased salary from the degree. I only mean that to encourage you to find a way to continue. If it means more time in school (more debt), it is worth it. Assuming you like nursing and all. | |
