+8 Internets | Media Player I searched but didn't find anything. Long story short, for some reason most of the videos I have downloaded latetly have been very dark in quality. I can't tell if it is just the video itself or the player. I use either Windows Media Player or DiVx. I don't think it's just hte videos because I have downloaded different videos from a range of sources. My question is, is there a media player where you can adjust the video brightness? I checked around Windows Media player and DiVx breifly but didn't find anything. I'm hoping to get to watching the new episode of Heroes tonight and I'm about to leave work, otherwise I would do more searching. I'm just lazy and want to be able to watch it ASAP. |

| MPC + ffdshow or VLC. I prefer the former. You adjust gamma in ffdshow video decoder configuration, under Picture Properties. Just turn up the gamma correction until it looks right. Make sure to check the box next to Picture Properties on the left side or else it won't actually do anything. MPC or QTA if you want it along with QT Alternative (highly recommended). ffdshow VLC PS- I would remove all other codec packs, divx decoders, etc. before installing ffdshow. Don't have to worry that with VLC because everything for it is internal. Last edited by Vorph : 02-27-2007 at 02:23 PM. |

+8 Internets | I think it has to be something with my video card. I downloaded what you suggested and still no go. I copied the last Heroes episode onto my laptop and have no problems seeing the picture clear.

| I don't know, I doubt it's your video card because I have to mess with gamma in order to get most shows to look ok when I watch them on my LCD. Heroes isn't too bad, but shows like Dirt require a massive gamma boost. Here's a example from this week's Heroes (720p source, reduced by 50% but otherwise not touched in Photoshop). Bottom half is what looked best on my LCD, maybe just a hair too bright but not enough for me to fiddle with it down to 0.01's. ffdshow settings are below that, in case there was some confusion about how to configure it. Incidentally, I'm looking at the forum on a CRT now and the 1.0 half looks fine while the 1.15 is washed out. That's why I say it's generally not a video card thing, but a monitor issue that just has to be corrected in settings. Last edited by Vorph : 03-02-2007 at 09:41 AM. |

+8 Internets | Well, the weird thing is that if I mess around with other windows and leave the media player alone, sometime the video will self correct itself. Like, for the opening of Heroes with the picture of the earth, it will be almost all black and the only thing you can see clearly is the words. Then, after opening other applications/windows/etc. the video sometimes auto-corrects and I can see it fine. EDIT: I'll take pictures when I get back from work tonight. It's kind of hard to explain.

+1 Internets | I installed a codec and had this same problem Thorpe. What I did to fix it was go to nvidia settings and click on the "Video and Television" tab. I moved brightness tab over to about 50% along with contrast and the problem seems to be fixed. |

+8 Internets | I get that same sub-menu Vorph. I have been so busy with work I haven't gotten time to watch anything I have downloaded. |
