Gore’s mansion consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES). The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average. Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359. Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006. Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year … In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

I think can probably be said for any rich environmental activist, and this is probably just the tip of the iceberg. I wonder if he owns any SUVs? Planes? Dining on exotic and rare animals?

Actually Hannity just had a piece about Al Gore's and many other rich environmentalists use of private jets. It was set up with stats on how private jets are however many times more polluting then public air travel for obvious number reasons, then busted into all the enviro dweebs who use them every time they travel.

Gore's only defense was that he offsets it by buying green credits (the biggest bullshit scam ever).

Well, while you can't expect the man to travel the country in a bus driven by vegetable oil or some shit (or maybe you can, I know a green candidate for Minnesota Senate recently did just that), you CAN expect him to be a little more environment conscious in his home life.

Maybe not necessarily expect him to live in a tree, but I don't think its a stretch to expect him to turn the fucking lights out at night like the rest of America, heh. I can't even comprehend what the fuck goes on in that place to rack up electric bills like that.

I agree that his electricity bills are a bit ridiculous, but at the same time, he DOES invest in various things that supposedly offset his energy usage and make his house carbon neutral. That somewhat lessens the hypocracy, I guess.

Ya, it does lesson the hypocrisy, but not by much.

Actually, if we use some round about thinking, it could actually increase the hypocrisy.

The money from those green tags basically finances many different green energy programs / infrastructure. In reality, it's a donation. The perk is that it makes you look good, and makes you feel better. IMO it's a joke - but at least it actually helps fund progress.

My rub: someone who preaches like gore should be reducing his personal pollution (what he tells us to do), AND donate to green companies/organizations on his own. Instead he sucks up more than most, and buys tokens that make it ok. It's just another way for the rich to preach to the poor without having to practice what they preach.

This whole debate will probably end up changing the lifestyles for the middle class on down, without messing with any of the rich folks shit. Not that I have that big of problem with it. Just motivates me to get rich. hehe
