Widescreen for computers Im looking for thoughts about going widescreen. Ive been looking at Dells 30 inch monitor. Not sure what to think about it though. The other choice I was looking at was getting Matrox's TripleHead2Go system and put 3 monitors together. Any ideas on which might be the better route? Not worried about the price of each so dont bother debateing that. Just more concerned about performance and visuals.

Once you go widescreen, you never go back. Not a fucking chance. I run three widescreen LCDs together and it's much nicer than three 4:3 aspect montiors lined up. *Wait for Vorph to cue in on the actual relevant information*

I'd stick with the Dell 30" personally. Run a couple 8800's in SLI and you'll be fine, assuming the rest of your pc is fairly recent. The Matrox thing is limited to 3840x1024 which is actually less pixels than the 2560x1600 native resolution of the Dell. And there's no annoying seams where the panels touch, no game compatibility issues, you can watch movies on it at 1080p, etc.

The FPD2485W? Haven't seen one, but I think you can find them stocked at Best Buy now. It's a S-PVA panel (not sure who makes it, probably Samsung), not a S-IPS. S-IPS is getting almost impossible to find at 1920x1200 though, especially if you want HDCP. It has Faroudja DCDi (chipset for high quality deinterlacing and upconversion) and various scaling modes including 1:1, which are both nice if you want to use it for movies or console games. Seems like a better deal to me than the Dell 2407, especially if you can get ahold of Best Buy coupons that are similar to the common Dell ones. Last edited by Vorph : 02-18-2007 at 09:27 PM.
